Go by Tapah. Pretty nice road to drive though very curvy. Simpang Pulai too far liao. I only went down via Simpang Pulai.

Yep, nice roads there! A bit of shame though, downhill Tapah is really FUN!! [drivingcar]

buy the crystal guava..very nice

try the fried sweet potato...quite nice also.

Just went up CH a couple of weeks back.

Bro, if you're speaking about the very smooth, shiny and bright green guavas that come wrapped in clear plastic bags, I'll advise some caution. (And that's speaking as a medical doctor)

Those guavas have been skinned and soaked in some kind of chemical. Having not seen/tried them before, I bought a pack. Was washing one of the guavas when I noticed some colouring coming off. Left the whole guava to soak for a while and the colour lightened by about half compared to the unsoaked one.

Thoroughly agree about the fried sweet potato.

Stayed at Equatorial.

The strawberry farm right opposite the hotel had very nice "pure" strawberry juice for RM6. Ask for no ice and no sugar. The butterfly/insect/reptile garden about 100m down from Equatorial towards Trinkap is also worth a visit - if only to experience holding gekkos, scorpions and rhinoceros beetles

just came back from CH last nite. the traffic jam at Kea Market is still there, but it depends on what time you are there. the traffic is clear if you avoid the noon times when people are leaving CH after they had checked out. the best time to be there is around 10am - lesser traffic. the jam is caused by people looking for a lot to park and people leaving CH after they had checked out. if you can time your arrival and departure or visits there, the traffic can be quite smooth.

also, part of the traffic at brinchang had been converted into a one-way street to make the traffic flow easier for those visiting the pasar malam. for those familiar with the area, it is between the police station and the shell petrol station next to the KFC - only a short stretch. but then the problem of looking for a carpark over at brinchang town still reminds [:(].

next week would be a better time to visit CH as this is the last week of the malaysian school holidays. not too sure if the pasar malam would still be opened on weekdays though. do anyone knows?

anyone stayed at cluny lodge before? heard that one owned by sg gahmen and only open to singaporean for booking

cluny lodge has 8 rooms spread over 3 levels for rental - some with attached bathroom. if i am not wrong, you can view the room layout at the aloha website. the place was newly renovated and quite well maintained with a small playground for children. as mentioned earlier, it is at the top of a hill and the drive up to the place is narrow and winding. you will need to have your own transport to stay there.

the housekeeper can cook your meals for a nominal fee. if you have a group, i recommend you have dinner there (if you are tired of the steamboat) - generous portion and delicious!

Neutral Newbie

I went there last weekend. Big jams near all the attractions and markets due to lack of sufficient parking.

I will not plan to go during weekends in future.

My advice ....use the old Tapah road instead of Simpang Pulai and you should get to tanah rata quicker if you stay there. If you stay in Brinchang, good luck!!

I experienced heavy traffic on NS highway from Tapah to Simpang Pulai and heavy jam near to tringkap all the way to brinchang from the Simpang Pulai route.

The only way to get to Cameron Highlands is by road. Until a few years back, you could only get to Cameron Highlands from the south via Tapah but since the opening of the new Simpang Pulai road, traveling to the highlands has become much more easier. You can also get here from the east coast via Gua Musang in Kelantan. :)

Was in CH recently and usually we wld stay at a hotel but this time stayed at an apartment - Desa Anthurium. Carpark is below the block and safe. Run by a chinese guy and the apartment had 3 bedrooms and a 39inch TV (best thing as can watch WCup). 1st rm had king-size bed, 2nd rm queen, and 3rd rm had 2 single beds. The king and queen rms had extra mattresses with bedsheets as well - so can take more than 6 persons. Actually they dont care how many is going to be in the apartment. 2 bathrooms (cum toilet) with instant heaters.

There is also a kitchen with basic utensils like rice cooker, kawli, assorted pots and pans, one kettle. ONE knife, chapalap plates and bowls, some chopsticks, fork and spoons. There is a fridge (working), a 2-stove gas cooker. Liquid detergent to wash your cutlery and utensils.

Apartment is quite clean but dont expect 5-star. Must bring your own towels though - sachet shampoo is provided but we have our own anyway. Overall, we had a great time there. [grin]

How much we paid? It was peak, so we paid RM250 per nite. Super peak is during their school holidays and weekends - RM 300 per nite. At other times its at RM 200 per nite.

There are actually many apartments for rent. Just check them out in the internet. [:)]

Haven't been there for years.

Is there still one petrol kiosk?

Better to refuel supplies before going up.

Supplies= some snacks, simple food and drinks. Sometime they close the road due to foggy condition.

we also stayed in an apartment....

the apartment consist of 3 rooms

1 room with 1 toilet (with queen size bed, with cupboards),

2 small rooms (1 room with 2 x single bed, 1 room with queen bed with cupboards)

at least 3pcs mattress in storeroom.

Water is damn freezing...

we got the apartment for RM 350 (1 nite), during 5 Jun 2010.

Best route is

travel via old way up the hills...(cant rem the road name).

Be careful along the way as its very narrow.

When travel down, use the new highway...as there are alot of plantations (you can visit the Boh tea plantation....etc)....

Check on your tyres...

I suffered a long nail into my rear right tyre... along the way back..

from CH to Sg...

suspected to have it during CH route...

Yup! Maybe slightly cheaper now as this is no longer school holiday (Malaysia as well as Singapore's) period. Can check out the internet -quite a few to choose from at different prices. :D

If not for the distance, dont mind driving up again and try other apartments.

You have AWD, all the better for Gunung Brinchang.

However, if you have lowered suspension and aftermarket sideskirts, then at certain stretches with bumps spanning across the path, it will be advisable to traverse diagonally. Watch out for branches and vines that hang down from atop if you treasure your paintwork.

slight drizzle and i cukoo went the wrong way (should have turned left instead of right.. and no thanks to the malsingmaps for spelling error (gn berinchang)

chionged up at a 5-60 deg slope narrow wet mud track of about 100meters and reaching the top found myself a dead-end.. damn... can't u-turn cos no space.. lan-lan slowly reverse back.. man.. tell u.. the muddy decline was an experience.. almost understeer all the way.. got to go forward up to get the grip back before reversing again.. [sweatdrop]

lucky didn't buang.. thank the AWD.. but my whole car and wheels really got caked with mud..

a sg corolla bro (we never met before) behind was lucky didnt follow me up.. but his car leaked some fluid and got stranded anyway..

he sent me off first cos he got to wait for his insurance workshop to bring a tow truck.. likely he had to spend his night outdoors [dead]

other than traffic jams (we went over weekend), it was a great experience.. [bounce1]
