if mileage is adjusted, then how do we know when to change timing belt ?

==========

Thats why for a 2nd hand car, better to do a service when u buy & ask the mech to check the timing belt if it looks worn.

If it is, better/safer to get it changed. [thumbsup]

I know of someone in Chevy forum who bought a 2nd hand Optra & was prob told the 60K km service was done which incl timing belt.

But in fact it was not & the belt snapped after a couple of months. Whole engine screwed & too ex to repair so she just scrapped the car.

Big loss like that.

any car can reset? i think for most conti car cannot......need to replace the whole odomter which then resets back to 0 mileage.

============

Old style manual odometer can reset by removing & turning back by hand.

Newer digital odometer even easier. All u need is a laptop & the required programme & its done in 15 mins.

In SG, the authorities cudnt care less. They dont make any $$$ from it so it wont intrest them at all. [:(]

Authority? They are aware of this issue and are monitoring the situation very closely.

If they could gather concrete evidence, action will be taken against them.

At the same time, the MCF members are advised to exercise extra vigilant when dealing with the 2nd car dealers.

If suspect anything, do not hesitate to call 1800-CALL LTA.

We thank you for your feedback.

[:p][cool]

============

If the authorities really want to catch, its quite easy.

Just sell them a car with mileage recorded as evidence & when the dealer advertise at a lower mileage, they already got enough evidence to prosecute, but then again, do they really care? [:(]

so easy meh?

last time my Opel SE says their odometer cannot be meddled.

my ford change new odo they never adjust the mileage back.

==========

Maybe our local AD r so out of date & very low knowledge, its possible they really dont know how to do.

U just leave it to the PIs & 2nd hand dealers to find ways & means to b dishonest.

I saw on AutoTraders, the guy use a laptop & do it in 15 mins. Can even choose what "new" mileage to display. [:p]

Neutral Newbie

sometimes really dont know whether those dealers got brains anot

37k kms for an '07 is low enuff as it is alr, soemore adjust to 10k?

ppl would tink that either the car is a lemon OR the mileage OBVIOUSLY been tampered before

Every hand the car passed tru, it got its mileage reduced.

So like that it seems like its become the standard practice for car sellers to lower the mileage if they have the means.

Maybe that car passed tru 3 dealers already, or he forgot he already lowered the mileage & asked the "specialist" to do it again by mistake?

Turbocharged

those cars under warranty and service by agent, i dont think used car dealers will change the ODO.

U can get the answer of the last done servicing and mileage by calling the agent.

32,000Km for a normal plate turbo charged '07 car is infact very ..... x2 low!!!.

Not true lah...my previous turbocharged ride was around 20k when I sold it off when it was 2 years old...

We only use about 40km per day and that's 5 days a week...
