My uncle used to have a E320 cabriolet during 1998-2002 period before he scrapped it. Bought it from Scotts Motor at Irving road. Still remember following him to pick up the car.

Real beautiful. White body with dark blue rag top

He complained of rusting behind the door section at c pillar area though....

Still beautiful when he offloaded it. He offered to me but I declined as I preferred modern curvy lines.

Regret. The car was a keeper, still creates presence when driven on the road today.

My dad bought a W124 E200 new back in '96. The COE back dan was 63k the price tag a whopping 255k includes a set of nicer merc rims. He had it for 7 years and scrap after that. The weight of the car sucks. Kerb weight was like almost 2 tons. 0~80km/hr was like tugging a 747. Seat cushions were unusually hard and uncomfortable.

But it's really very well built, everything feels tight and solid. But after 7 years a lot of attention is needed to maintain it, especially the engine. Gearbox not much of a problem. Suspension also up lorry after 7 years, kinda bouncy.

To overhaul such an old car now needs a lot of effort and $$$.

Neutral Newbie

A couple of weeks back, I heard from a Merc enthusiast that someone was selling a Merc E-Class cabriolet (W124 based body). Seller wanted something like $90k for the car with the COE renewed in 2009 (probably at its lowest around MAR - JUNE 2009). Wonder if its a E320 V6 or a smaller engine (220 perhaps?) Does anyone know about this? Would really like to take a look if its a E320 cos these are just classics for keepsake. With a assumed depreciation of about $11k a year, it isn't too costly for such a car. Plus you're gonna get something back at the end of its COE life. The E320 cabs are in the same league as the Porsche 911 SCs 3.0 and the Carerra 3.2 of the 80's. Body value, even without COE, could be around $40k for a pristine example. Plus the E320 should be a much better ride than say the 911 SC. I know cos I used to own a 1981 911 SC myself some 15 years ago.
