and most cars can take fuel of lower ron but suffer knocking..

not good in the long run. thus saving in the short term lead to long term suffering down the road

in fact u dont save much lo...seriously if u cant even afford 2 fill her up with proper petrol then u shldnt be driving an expensive car agreed?

The BMW 318i also consumes a lot of oil. I've driven only 8200km and I had to top it up yesterday after the oil indicator started lighting up. Need to use at least an oil grade 40.

My 318 also the same. During my third trip to KL, mileage 5,200 km, the oil indicator showed "+1l".

Drove into Petronas and bought 1l of 10W30 and pour in. Was surpirse that it cosumes engine oil, but after reading the user's manual realised that this car requires regular engine oil top-up.

At least its not as bad as the Mazda RX8. A friend of mine who has the car says that that cars literally eats oil. After driving it for sometime, the car inside smells of car engine oil.

The BMW manual says that they recommend Castrol but I used the Shell Helix Ultra to top up. When I tried to fill it up yesterday, I tried looking for the oil dipstix to check that I won't over fill .[laugh] (I used to drive an Opel Astra before). When I couldn't find it, I realised that its monitered by the computer only.

err... why some cars drink engine oil and some cars don't?

alot of factors...but mainly is cos of engine design...take honda engines for example...the B series engine is famous for engine oil consumption despite its high BHP output...

i hazard a guess ok...i thk mainly due to compression and heat of the engine...say Evo the high compression engines uses 50w oil..and high heat thins oil leaking into combustion chambers...as i guess engine 'eat oil' technically can only refer to oil going into the chambers and being burnt off....

i needed to top up 1l for my first 7000km. after 1st servicing, i need not top up anymore.

as for some pple here saying that fc is high on 318, to me is normal, 9-10 km/l for a 2.0 veh. (i'm a heavy footer, with my 19" rims on my 318)

something missed out in the discussion here. i guess, not only for the brand that ppl are gg for bmw, but also the superb handling that bimmer has. try it n u know the different. my friend goes for a second bimmers, i ask him y not gg for audi or vw, his comment is that he don't 'feel' the other car!!

so, to me, 318 is a good start with a conti car [laugh]

you do know jolly well that Audi sedans (bar S und RS models)/VW (especially the Passat model) aren't engineered to be good handling cars right???

the C-Class offers turbocharger (supercharger if you're in 2nd hand buys), which makes driving the car as a whole (not just the steering feel), more comprehensive....from the well damped suspension, to the supercharger minute whine, accelerator response feel etc....

what can the 318i provide??? heck, even the 320i 156bhp version which i test drove went nowhere even though i floor the accelerator....all the hype on the steering feel and handling and capable chassis etc, all GONE in that instant.

and features wise, you're actually able to spec your own features, afterwhich the car will be specially indent for you, so i shall not commend on the standard features.

anyway, the new 3-Series is due in 2011....

don't regret your 318i buy....(fortunately for you, you bought a 2nd hand version).

If you don't feel the 118i small may think of this car more acc. than 320 HP 143 fuel 16.1L /100km and much more cheaper...i like the welcome light with led light at door handle very cool .....Trust me very fun Bimmer to drive.

Was told that BM is selling current stock of IS250 at $135k. OMV at $38k with a open cat COE at $40k. This works out to a profit margin of about $7k for BM.

Have any bros checked it out [;)]

Yes .. previously was at $146,888 with 5 yrs warranty & 3 yrs free servicing. Now $135,000 with 3 yrs warranty but NO free servicing. SE told me they now fight with price, strictly 'no-frills' ...

Yup, not only steering 'dead', but its F/F (FWD) configuration can never match a BMW or Merc (at least for the current 'C') for superb handling, balance and feel.

DSG/S-tronic and mechatronics got issues. Just go to vagsg.com to appreciate their woes there.

The only Audi worth its salt would be the quattro models, IMHO.

Anything less, would be a compromise for the 4-ring marque.
