New 318i - Not too bad ?

a shallow thinker.. u can fool the ppl who don't know about the car but u can't fool urself. Yes, u still get a bmw brands image but u not really enjoyed bcos missing of real bmw efficient dynamics and luxury equipments..

once u can convince yourselves, go ahead and get the car.

 

it's really about u and the car.. don't bother too much with what others said. but if u are bothered, then add that into your consideration and see whether u will want to get the car anot.

Understand where you are coming from. Me not fortunate enough to be in such dilemma, just that after seeing it with sunroof/memory seats as std and has elec folding side mirror (which many condemn w/o it for earlier batches), it's not so bad afterall.

 

I guess I am a shallow badge whore, cos I am one who will buy Rolex even though Omega is more complicated/cheaper/nicer etc. I go for the WOW factor (how lian lah) For cars, I will go for MB over Audi or BMW (all are good cars) ... But the key word is "WILL", I can't afford any of the 3 brands anyway... Can only drool at sideline...

Buy Volvo la. Drive a tank on the road with all the lux comparable to BMW without the stiff seats and the stiff steering. Volvo is good at soft leather seats (best in class seats in the auto industry) and comfort as compare the the BMW (don't touch me in chinese, bie mo wo...), seat until buttocks pain on the stiff leather seats. Performance is much higher than the miserable BMW3 and even the 5 series....

Back in the olden days, no one think much of Singapore but what happen to the small fishing village.

 

We also did expect china cars on our road decades ago but look at what we have.

 

So don't be surprised that the Benz and bimmer we will have will come from there or even be own by them in future

For a start, I can say that everybody have dreams and goals in their lifes. Working towards it and rewards will come naturally......

 

I ditched my 2 yr old FD2R (my dream car since I'm 18) for a used BMW for that reason. Not for the power and speed (220 bhp vs 138 Bhp) but for image and status. Let's all face it that if you drive up a BMW against other japan or korea make car to a non-car novice, you will expect different kind of reactions from them. So what if you are drving an high end Accord, Carmy or Tenna that have double the horse power and luxury equipments? Layman term is, people will still say you are driving a japanese car only.

 

Be it a 318, 320, 323, 325 or 335, people will still say "wow that a BMW" and not "wow that a BMW 3** with ***BHP and top speed of 2**km/h". Do the Valet care to park according to car model ? maybe apart from 335 i guess. Let's not lie to ourself that in this practical Singapore where almost all the people are chasing their dreams, their 5Cs or even looking to upgrade their lifestyle, we can never run away for brands assocated with it. If not why is Brand worths a million dollar tag?

 

Perhaps for me, I came to realise that the objective of making the switch lie in the facts that in Singapore, there is no point getting higher end models as you might reach the destination 5 sec earlier that me (if you drive 335), paying more premium upfront and losing more later for higher models and those chicks on the streets do not know you are driving a BMW with rear aircon; yes, people surfing the forum will know only. For me,mostly importantly, is that I'm are driving a BMW. (The self shiokness that only driver can feel)

 

To end all these arguments, perhaps the TS can do a survey on the men on the street on their choices if they had a choice. A BMW 318 or a 3.5 Accord or a 3.5 Terna. It's better then posting here and get bash upside down ?

 

Let's hope that forummers will not keep bashing people who drive a low entry BMW cars like me. "We are all given a choice and let's respect that"

 

PS: I'm speaking of my thoughs and not aim at pointing anyone's reply.

You are driving a BMW or a Honda is always the starting sentence of people talking about your car. Little chances are they will go "deep" into your car spec or luxury items. Check with you aunties or in-laws.

 

Yes, i am a badge whore because I believe in marketing, branding and image. If not might as well take SBS Volve bus or QQ. I'm not only a badge whore in cars but as well as other little stuff in our daily life. (clothes, watches, wallets, housing and perhaps even brand of shaver we use ) It goes to the same old stuff "Marketing of that Brand". A very successful upcoming brand i believe is Audi. SGD4 million A&P a year leh. Can beat that Ah Seng lor.

 

Until 1 day whereby brands is no longer a status or image indicator, perhaps i might go and buy a QQ.

 

For me, IF i can upgrade my status again, I will still go for entry level 5 series or E200 thou i believe will still have those people talking about negative stuff. Its a fact in Singapore. Uniquely Singaporean lah

 

To achieve all these, I will have to work extra doubling hard to have that. I'm not born rich.
