Got my Blackvue DR400-G HD. It is a nice slim cylindrical shaped car cam and can be well hidden from view.

There is only one button on its exterior which is to activate parking mode only. All the settings has to be done thru the PC via the microSD card. Just like my previous car cam from korea, DRS1100PRO, open its proprietary software and adjust all the settings there. Their software is one of the most comprehensive one I have seen to date. The video is encoded in mp4 format so even w/o the software, u can use other video player to view the recorded video unlike my previous DRS1100PRO where the recorded video is encoded in its own proprietary format.

So far I only selected Full HD resolution n 30fps. The captured video is clear and sharp. The night video is the clearest I ever seen, beating the DOD-tech GSE580 hands down. For daytime video, both DR400-G n GSE580 are same. Coupled with a 120 degrees lens, it provides sufficent coverage area, from one end of the A pillar to the other.

The only dislike I find is the recording time frame. Settings only allow 1 to 3 mins long is allowed. If I would like to make a road trip video, I would have to link all the files together using my own video editing software. Also any change of settings, u got to remove ur microSD card n plug it into a PC. Unlike the rest of other car cam with LCD screen where u can change the settings instantly.

The other downside is this unit runs hot, I meant physically hot. It reached 58.0 degrees on my infra red thermometer somewhere near the speaker vent. It is the hottest running car cam I have. Therefore I am afraid of the life span of the unit.

The lack of a LCD screen also kept me holding back on my purchase. But I tot, wat the hell, just buy lah. [laugh] It is an excellent replacement for my aged DRS1100PRO.

Here is a short comparison video between Blackvue DR400-G HD and DOD-tec GSE580 taken last night. Notice that the DR400-G has its GPS km/h indicated whereas, the GSE580 not showing it. The GSE580 GPS really a let down, I suspect they are using an older GPS chip so locking on Sat is not instant. DR400-G locks on to Sat almost instantly like my Garmin GPS.

Black Vue indeed looks more sharp and crisp. But without LCD, then how to position the cam properly. BTW does it come with motion detect function?

Yes, it comes with motion sensor. The sensitivity can be adjusted in its settings.

According to the manual, there are two ways to position the cam. One is to use the provided video cable and link it to a video display screen. Another way is, there is a printed word Blackvue on the Parking mode button which is on the side. The wording is horizontal with the lens, so use the wording as a guide to adjust the lens.

I used the video cable and plug it into my Nextbase DVD player to install my Blackvue.

Its clear cut that Blackvue beats GSE580 hands-down. But what are their price differences?

Although the Blackvue is better, the GSE580 picture quality is still consider very good already, if compare to many other cams.

Price difference for my sets is abt S$80, Blackvue being more expensive. But features wise, both also differ a lot. Both of these are the leading car cam in the market now. Cost me a tidy sum too!!! [bigcry] If I dont buy these car cams, I think I can buy my Song NEX-3 or 5 liao. Picture quality easily beats all car cam hands down. [laugh]

But the good thing abt GSE580 is, if u meet an accident n u dont have a camera to take pics of ur vehicle damage, simply use the GSE580. Its meant as a personal camera too!!! The Blackvue cant do that. [laugh]

has been hunting around for one.

budget abt $250 any recommandation.

I wan those can run direct from car battery.

Checked around for three weeks cant decide. any advice?

====================================

brother my suggestion is that either you can a low end entry for evidence purpose or very high end that cost $350-400 !

currently i am selling this product at $89 , if you are interested you can contact drop me at 98596262.

cash and carry.

Used and throw ..!! price too low...

anything less than $100... compare to your car value than worth more than $50,000 , it is only a fraction of it..
