agreed. he was only make to look not so lavish in his purchase because most of them cost between 10m to 20m. but count the total value of these flops he purchased and the value is quite significant.

he is made to look good because supporters will compare to Man U and Chelsea in the past which has signings above 20m pounds. Note that Chelsea has no recent signings above 20m pounds that flopped. the only ones that rafa supporters can cite is actually berbatov at 30m pounds for Man U. but at least fergie has earned enough accolodes to mitigate the occasional flopped signings. rafa has nothing he can claim credit for. champs league win was largely dependent on the squad inherited from houllier and that also by a very huge stroke of luck in the finals against Milan and semi finals against chelsea.

and on the 2 occasions they reach champs league final, one of them he sacrificed the BPL 4th placing for it. is very clear from his substitutions that he priortizes champs league and gives up BPL.

winning the champions league/getting to the final in itself is credit, inherited team or not, lucky or otherwise.

plenty of managers inherit awesome teams, yet win very little, if at all. it still takes a good manager and plenty of luck to win anything. the team he inherited wasnt even great, the likes of biscan, smicer, kewell, etc.

imo, benitez is a good tactician, but lacks in player management. i.e. with existing players, he can come up with the best available strategy. unfortunately, players dont develop under him, neither do i think he can motivate them well. ideally, i think he'd make an excellent spain coach, where development is not important.

no offence hor. cheers :D

while i am not pool fan, i quite empathize with the plight of pool.

i fear not many branded managers will want to take up the job at pool knowing the mess it is in, no champs league and limited purse string

but i hope the non-branded and underrated managers like roy hodgson or martin o neill takes up the job at pool. i think they are good enough to manage a team with pool's array of talents.

But i think both of them wont change Liverpool into champion, they might improve but to be Champion....i seriously doubt so.

i find Roy Hodgson to be overated. rather have kenny at the helm compare to him.

Martine O neil will be good though i will had prefer HR but spurs is in champion league so no way he is coming.

you can say he is loyal mah...

but like i say some where, his leaving mean only either 2 things

1) No transfer Kit

2) They want to sell star player.

Lets hope that its really as reported

3) Dressing room unrest.

Neutral Newbie

Jose will never go to a club that got no money to let him buy player.

I have a feeling we are going to end up with Kenny.

1. Kenny (polled by Joseph22)

2. Hiddink (polled by chilz)

haha i happen to be those that look beyond just results..

to me the pool triumph was with such a huge dose of luck even my pool supporter friend and another supporter kingcopa here admitted. to say other teams inherit good team but nvr achieve anything and cut rafa some slack is like saying since others never achieve a desired outcome, let's give credit to the subject (rafa in this case) for the job well done.

how related are they? is it right to lower expecation of subject because another person did not achieve the result? look there are so many people you can compare against, why do you cherry pick to compare another person who has a great team but achieved nothing?

why not compare to jose led porto who has an average team players (nobody knows of deco until porto lifts the UCL) but achieve the champs league? there are so many sub par performers that you can compare against so it conveniently helps your argument that rafa is better. but there are so few achievers and yet you don compare rafa against?

Rafa should leave ago.

I seriously hate and detest people who think they are smart but actually they are not. These people so called "smart alex" are so arrogrant. I have been a loyal Liverpool supporter for years. I hate him from the start when he took over as manager. What have he promised? Lousy and "act smart" tactics....Buy so many flops......Well, he himself is also one major one..... I think the point about his net spending is slightly different from the quality of his buys. Financially he may be able to sell off his dud buys and get back some money, but that does not detract from the absolute number of bad transfers he made. By way of simple example, just because you can buy-sell 4 bad players using the same initial amount of money does not erase the fact that 4 bad players were purchased.

At any one time, there is only that many players a club can have on its roster. And I've read reports about how come players got little or no playing time from the get go and how RB never seem to speak to them. I really wonder why then did he get them in the first place.

TBH. I think Rafa inherited quite a good team dispite the age of the squad. in fact i find the squad good enough to challenge for the title during that time.

according to the man himself. He never wanted to buy them but Parry force it down his troats. If you believe what he claimed.
