You can try the following brands, all pretty reputable.

Global

Yuasa

Amaron

Varta

FIAMM

Those are expensive high end ones

These are cheaper but pretty good as well

GT Battery

Aurora

Yokohama

Solite

Hyundai

Try your luck man. Depends which dealer you going as well.

These are a few I can recommend, location might not be ideal, but can try,

Soon Tire and Battery

Beng Heng Tyres Batteries Service

Blk 32, Sin Ming Drive #01-337 (S) 575706 Tel: 64576337, 64593335

Fax: 64574230

Ming Hing Auto

Just personal encounters. Battery always seems to auto die by itself when around these areas. Lol.

There used to be this young chap who is quite mobile in going to places to change batteries or at times rescue people from "dead battery and stranded along the roads" situations. His prices are, in my opinion, quite alright.

any shops to recommend? [;)]

I also thinking of changing my batt, seems weak

==============

I changed a Global Maint free batt, made in Korea, (I think its 55amh) for my Optra at Eng Wah (Toa Payoh) >2 years ago fro $90 & its still strong.

Amaron MF battery was a good brand.

AMARON batteries is reasonable and quality is GOOD.

Dont look down on this made in India stuff. They have fair bit of high tech stuff in it.

Owned by Johnson controls- US companies.

If still dont trust this brand and got $$$ to buy piece of mind- use Hoppeckie- from Germany. But Din size, provided got space to fit in.

FYI they even made military spec batteries for tanks.

Personally I tried both, AMARON is really cheaper and better. Used for 3 years, still no sign of weakening.

At the end of the day, it boils down to how you use your car and what is the electrical load you have. Saying amaron is best or hoppecke is best doesn't really mean anything. Amaron may "seem" to be the "best" mainly because big marketing efforts were expended and bigger profit margins were given to dealers who push them more than other brands.

To correct misconceptions, Amaron was a result of a joint-venture with Johnson Controls, JC does not own amaron or its main company amara raja. AR did not possess the necessary knowledge or expertise to make a good battery then, had to call in the experts. Its well documented with regards to the history and milestones of the company. Calcium and silven-X are just dilution additives to the lead to prolong storage life whilst awaiting installation. It is not to be taken as "better" technology per se <_< Unfortunately, marketing was able to convince the majority otherwise [rolleyes]

For your information, AC Delco and Bosch batteries are also private labels manufactured by amara raja [sly]

Did you think you were buying the original from USA or Germany for the price you see?

As for claims of battery still going strong for 3-4-5 yrs, I tend to treat such comments with circumspect... <_< everyone hides behind their computer and says whatever they want knowing full well the chances of being scrutinized is as good as zero. So how to truly believe? Take it with a pinch of salt, there could be more variables involved.

Some maybe lying about their true change out period, some could be charging their batteries regularly, some may fit a much more larger battery than stock, some may add electrolyte to cells to ensure minimal water loss.... variables are many.

I believe all batteries are able to perform their rudiment purpose, that is to start the vehicle and store energy from charging. How long they will last really depends on a host of conditions ie. heat, evaporation, sulphation, state of charge, driving distance, aftermarket accessories, alternator condition, frequency of usage, size of battery, purity of lead content, construction quality etc..... just too many [laugh]

How do you judge brand performance and formulate a balanced comparison between brands?

Even if you fit two identical batteries in two identical cars covering same driving routes both accumulating same mileage but driven by two different people, the chance of one battery outlasting the other is still there.... What will it prove for the brand eventually? [confused]
