Edminski 2nd Gear May 30, 2010 Author Share May 30, 2010 (edited) Hi TS, Sad to tell you that Borneo Motor Service mechanic are HOPELESS! Seriously need to spoon feed them to tell them what to do. Anyway, how do they check your battery? Just clamp the 2 terminals and read or they got test with the engine cranking? Spark plug I believe should can factor in too. Ask them to check for you. If they still say your car is normal, dare them to compare with another Altis. I did this to the mechanic for my Vios regarding my compressor noise. He say my Vios's compressor noise is perfectly normal (Of course I know it's not normal. I drive for how long liao?) I dare him to take another Vios and compare. (He is stupid enough to take an older Vios to compare.) In the end, Old Vios aircon compressor noise QUIETER than my newer Vios! He LLST diam diam. hi..i am the one who pm you in vios forum to ask you about this i dont know how they test, but they told me that the meter shows normal. They simply dont fix the problem and tell you its normal. So to me, my interpretation is that "huh..u mean i send my car here 2 times to tell you about the problem and you dont believe me?" i said its not normal, they say computer shows normal, so its normal I say "huh, if your car start engine is slower and worst than a lorry starting the engine, you call it normal too"? The mechanic say ya, this problem alot of people complain but no choice, its really normal Edited May 30, 2010 by Edminski ↡ Advertisement
Ken4555 1st Gear May 30, 2010 Share May 30, 2010 i remember once and i think i did heard the ee-ee-ee-ee more times then wroom... cause i never immediately turn all the way... i sure will wait at least 3 secounds... my company toyota small lorry EXACTLY like your problem... if i instant turn will take about 5 seconds to start... but if i turn and wait for 3-4 seconds than turn... MUCH faster to start... maybe starter motor needs to warm up...

Mechanic A in air-conditioned room attend to me. I tell him the problems. He say its normal. I told Mechanic A that i drive Sunny for 5 years already and never experience such a long cranking. Mechanic A refer me to Mechanic B outside. Mechanic B wants to show me a test drive Altis and trying to say that its the same But whats the point of the stupid mechanic B to show me a good condition Altis and expect me to believe in him. Mechanic B says according to their servicing instruction manual, its ok for long cranking. In my mind i am thinking, then what about failing to start engine? Is it normal too? Mechanic A and Mechanic B trying to smoke me. So sick of Leng Kee servicing center When i tried to call Pandan Servicing center last week and tell them this problem, they advise me to go to Leng Kee cos Leng Kee is their biggest servicing branch with better knowledge. Another tai chi.. Today i emailed BM already. Waiting for someone to call me to get scolding

The mechanic say ya, this problem alot of people complain but no choice, its really normal haha just realise i got a PM. anyway, i reply you here ;) my cranking improved even better after I changed my spark plug. but the new battery really helps. Battery: Having healthy reading on voltage and CCA is normal. But when comes to real cranking, then it's different. When I have my battery tested at Stamford Tyre and Autobac, both reading were normal UNTIL I crank my engine, the reading shows that battery weak liao. Infact, if you realise, those Diesel engine can start engine in less than 1 second. I rented a 10 years old Hyundai Van, engine gets started by just a twist. Make noise. make so much noise till everyone can hear you. People at Borneo eats "Hard", they don't eat "Soft" Don't you have enough? They don't know your problem then they just give you stupid reason. Also not to mention, 1) Their service is slow. 2) Repeat complain DOES NOT GET priority attention. Just join the queue. Leave the car there then come back after hours. 3) The mechanic, when test drive my vehicle, always put the gear from R to D without the car coming to a COMPLETE STOP. Also didn't even press the button to shift my gear. When a leaf got stucked on my wind screen, the mechanic just off the engine for the wiper to stop at vertical position then he open the window to pull off the leaf with the wiper at the position of his favour. (He on and off my ignition 3 times for the wiper to reach that position >.<) Hope my point 3 can be understood. No one would like to see such thing being happened on your car. After visiting, still got Customer Service Relation Officer call me to find out my feedback but to get scolding from me. (I seriously fark this girl over the phone) I am not trying to be nasty or what. 1) A car is not cheap. 2) It's a Toyota. 3) It's a AD, not PI. 4) Coz it's an AD, we pay more (for warranty, reliable servicing and assurance), but to get such services instead? Kb27 Supersonic May 30, 2010 Share May 30, 2010 It's not normal to crank 4~5 secs to start an engine, especially for a new car. Within 2 seconds, it should start. A few possiblities: 1. Bad battery - check with someone who has a known good battery 2. Fuel system 3. Ignition system I did experience a little longer to crank at one time. That was after I changed timing belt. The mech had install the crank pulley a little bit too "hard" and the engine failed to start. He said my battery is bad and try a bigger one. Same thing it couldn't start. It crank until I see smoke and I tell him to stop. Then he adjust something, probably the belts and it manage to start. Later, I found at another workshop that my aftermarket crank pulley was bad. It had jammed against the engine block, causing a lot of restriction to the battery. The batt died a couple of weeks later. Most of the time I only drive about 20km a day. It's not really a problem if it has enough time to charge. I suggest to try with a friends' battery first. Unless you can scream at your AD to make them work. Lorry is diesel ar , you need to on the electric 1st to warm the glow plug and rise the oil pressure then start the engine , but TS vehicle is petrol car ley. Shanhz 3rd Gear May 31, 2010 Share May 31, 2010 may or may not be a prob with you car. go for altis club meetup, go and start a few altis. or, go to BM, request SA to let you start those test drive cars. see if it's the same

Ya now then i know that alot of cars have spongy brake too. I am too used to my sunny's brake already so when i change to this new ride, i am not used to spongy brake The mechanic tested the car with me sitting beside him. He ram the accelerator so hard and brake so hard. The point is, its my new car and he ram so hard for what [rifle] (I have been driving so carefully telling myself not to ram hard already)

Count 3 seconds and crank engine Will give above steps a try for another 1 week and update you guys any outcome 3) If above still dont works after 1 week, i will send the car for another check (3rd time already) and insist them settle this problem or else i will not leave the place. If they still cant do anything, i will insist them to change a new battery for me. 4) If they dont want to change battery, i will just pay $ to change a new one

Passion 5th Gear May 31, 2010 Share May 31, 2010 Hi,I driving an Altis too.I only need around 7 electrical sound to start the engine. Not more than that.I think your starter motor not ok,else it's the spark plug. When you start, switch to "on" and allow the airbag and ABS light goes off, then start the engine.Off all the aircon and audio system. ↡ Advertisement
