Mike1234 1st Gear May 30, 2010 Share May 30, 2010 This afternoon at around 1.30pm after coming out from Clarke Quay MRT Station, I was going to cross the traffic light crossing at New Bridge Road (near to an ERP gantry and a bak kut teh shop) heading to Funan. As usual the green man light was on and I was crossing as usual. Then there is this silver P plate car driving at around 50 to 70km/hr towards the traffic crossing without any intention to slow down. As I am also a driver, my instinct told me to stop walking and stand on Lane 1, and true enough, within seconds this car whizzed pass me and beat the red light. I was quite stunned and angry, but too bad I did not note down the car plate number as it had driven too far off. Had I not have the habit of looking for oncoming traffic while crossing the road, or if I was talking on the phone, I might have been seriously injured or even died like the Romanian diplomat's case. So the real life lesson here is, we should not assume that cars will stop at red light. We should take charge of our own safety by looking for oncoming traffic all the time while crossing the road. Well, maybe he cant stop in time and thus would have to risk accelerating instead of braking. Somethimes there are situations where you have to analyse whether you can brake properly in time. If cant, then there's no choice especially there's an eldery in the car. Well, crossing the road also have to be careful. Maybe we can learn back in our old school......Raise hand, Turn right, turn left. No cars, walk. Then turn right and turn left again. ahaa! ↡ Advertisement
Vlad1973 Neutral Newbie May 30, 2010 Share May 30, 2010 马路如虎口 alot kayu drivers on the road. Therefore, pedestrians must always lookout for themselves too. Totally agree. where i stay in clementi, many drivers beat the red light at the junction. they are not kayu but irresponsible. sometimes i wonder why lta never install camera at that junction. Jman888 Moderator May 30, 2010 Share May 30, 2010 anyway at some places where there are multiple traffic lights in line, driver might see wrongly and though its green where his light is red... For example the junction just outside SBAB, quite often accidents happen there... that is possible as it happen to me a couple of time [sweatdrop] though i do drive slow and pay attention to the pedestrian. ↡ Advertisement
