A real life danger to share

This afternoon at around 1.30pm after coming out from Clarke Quay MRT Station, I was going to cross the traffic light crossing at New Bridge Road (near to an ERP gantry and a bak kut teh shop) heading to Funan. As usual the green man light was on and I was crossing as usual.

 

Then there is this silver P plate car driving at around 50 to 70km/hr towards the traffic crossing without any intention to slow down. As I am also a driver, my instinct told me to stop walking and stand on Lane 1, and true enough, within seconds this car whizzed pass me and beat the red light. I was quite stunned and angry, but too bad I did not note down the car plate number as it had driven too far off. Had I not have the habit of looking for oncoming traffic while crossing the road, or if I was talking on the phone, I might have been seriously injured or even died like the Romanian diplomat's case.

 

So the real life lesson here is, we should not assume that cars will stop at red light. We should take charge of our own safety by looking for oncoming traffic all the time while crossing the road.

Now it was also too late to apprehend the driver involved as I did not note down the car plate number.

 

Anyway, still the same advice, we should take charge of our own safety and do not assume others will take care of us.

Once I was stopped at a red light at a traffic junction when a taxi whizzed past me & only jammed his brakes after he passed the junction.

 

Was prob dreaming.

 

So next time u walking & crossing road, junction or even zebra crossing, always look out cos some drivers might not stop even though u have the right of way.

 

Even if u driving, always check the other roads at a junction b4 proceeding if possible cos some drivers cud b preoccupied & might not notice the light is red.

 

Got 1 case some time back, according to witnesses, lights in all directions at a junction was green, which caused an accident.

anyway at some places where there are multiple traffic lights in line, driver might see wrongly and though its green where his light is red... For example the junction just outside SBAB, quite often accidents happen there...

few days back, stopped at traffic light along clementi rd to west coast highway.. this malaysian car wheez pass me and all the other vehicles who had traffic light in their favour braked juz to avoid this fella

Yes too involved in multi- tasking while driving could be one reason.

I believe due to the hectic life we live in, every seconds count.

The amber light is now = quickly to thru if not u will get stuck at traffic light!

Taxi drivers time are the most precious as I see most taxi beat red light nowadays.

I forsee if the police still heck care about it, soon our traffic will change for the worst!

Good practice for you. i saw a lot of pedestrians yaya papaya take own sweet time to cross the road, either sms, looking here and there, some even look high up to the sky, or another side from the traffic. all act cool. for them, they will not able to learn their lesson. either nothing happened to them or one incident, gone case liao.

You said it right. But I still do not understand why SBS buses got every right to come out of their bus bays without any due care. If there is an accident, no matter what the car is wrong. Super dangerous for the bus passengers coz bus driver knows that he is right even if he dont check before coming out of the bus stop bays. For this, passengers cannot take charge of their own safety but have to put themselves in higher risk instead.

yes, that's a possibility. tats why i always tell pple arnd me that they shld never assume. even if it's not your fault, you are the one suffering. at most the driver get few yrs ban and few k fine. that's all. always take responsibility for your own safety. whenever i see kid crossing junctions and typing sms, always shake my head
