Why do diesels accelerate so slowly even with high torque?

Have u ever drag race with Sonata Taxi? From traffic light, l slam full throttle. My car launched ahead. Sonata Taxi catch up & overtake me. At that time, my speed already 80km/h.

Modern diesel engines max torque is over a range of RPM, like 1,600 - 3,000. Diesel car is used for its fuel efficiency. Manual car is popular is Europe because of preference. FC difference btw manual & auto is not that great except mayb DSG.

yes i drag with sonata before. the taxi cannot catch up. my load was driver + 1 passenger. I have ~350nm and double his bhp. somemore my weight much lighter

i would think that the sonata's 0-100 is >>8 seconds so any 325 and above would smoke it

Yap, even new Benz cab also noisy from the outside. I wonder is it because of the design of what, generally diesel cars are noiser, if not, it is just a matter of time, IMHO.

Regards,

Generally speaking...4 pot diesels are noisier, more vibration....and more clattery....but 6 pots and above diesels are more refined and almost no clatter at all....almost on par or the same as a petrol engine...

:o You are right! 1000Nm of torque.

But it's sold here? At least VCS tried selling the R50. [laugh]

they limit the torque on the Q7 V12 TDI....

i think it produces over 1100nm-1200nm....

gotta limit is as on the 65AMG models from Mercedes AMG range too....

anything more than 750Nm is kinda useless for fast off-the-line acceleration....

the wheel will keep spinning, without the car moving forward much....when you floor the throttle...

A good traction control will cure that spinning problem [nod]

there's a limit to everything one....

too much is too much....

with over 1000Nm in a car (bar huge heavy vehicles like buses and trucks),

the LSD or traction control systems are spinning with the tyres as well...

haha... [laugh]

the later version 1.6hdi 16v engine built by PSA grp for citroen berlingo & peugeot partner....is very quiet...can feel like driving a petrol powered car. :)
