But UK afternoon temperature seldom go above 25degC even during summer.

I know it sounds ridiculous but just realised that UK does have such a law. IF you don't off your engines while waiting at a long traffic light you may be fined! LOL!!!!

I read from HK magazine.

HK is passing a new law that all vehicle must switch off the engine if stationary for 3 minutes or more in 1 hour. Excluded when at traffic light junction or stuck in jam.

The enforcer will start their stopwatch once they see a vehicle stops. If after 3 minutes the vehicle still remain stationary, they will issue saman.

The motivation is no so much on saving petrol but to save the earth. [thumbsup]

I think HK SAR tried/are still trying to implement something similar on taxis, but met with protests. Saw on the news some time ago.

I think I also read somewhere that starting up consumes quite a bit of petrol (compared to cruise driving), so running cost will go up if that is true.

At least for HK the car is park or stationary.

To shut off the engine at traffic junction during red light which will change to green in a min time just don't mak sense.

I was told that we are not allow to let the engine runs for more than 3 min when vehicle is parked even in Singapore.

If thats the case, then they should enforced it!! Esp. on cabs! I always see them leaving engine running while parked.

If i am not wrong, i have came across an article in HK where the taxi drivers have to turn off their engine when waiting for passengers....

Well, i kinda find it useless as the article is mainly talking about the environment issue....

What they should do is to follow the EURO 5 enviromental standards instead of implementing these kinda useless measures...

Just my opinion...

As said, if we implement in Singapore, then alot of people will get heat stoke.
