Chewbacca 1st Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 (edited) What's the difference between Desire and Legend OS? Both are 2.1, but one's Eclaire, the other one is...vanilla? I was thinking of Desire, but it's out of stock....and I need one urgently. And how much is Samsung Galaxy? If Singtel 3G Flexi Lite plan? Singtel is saying $0, but that can't be true... Samsung Galaxy screen very chio. And big.
Chewbacca 1st Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 Sadly, both Galaxy and Desire are out of stock. I don't mind paying more for my handphone this time. It will be my first touch screen phone. I've been using low end, cheap basic ones for the past 2 years. But....only Legend is still stocked. Also, I have very bad experience with Sony Ericsson phone. Which is my current one. Eh, don't think I'll ever get one again. The previous 2 were Nokias.

Mcfguy 1st Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 Can I safely say that in order to surf the internet like on a PC (without Flash or javascript compatibilties), the best choice is to use a smartphone running Android OS? I've heard Windows Mobile shuld be OK but didn't really know which brand/model running it.

Since this is your first touch screen phone, I would suggest you play around with a good touch screen phone first and see if you like the touch, feel etc. Not all touch screen phones are built the same. Eg I hate the resistance touch screen type. And for some models, I had such a hard time even typing out a short SMS. The Galaxy, Desire, X10, Legend are all capacitative touch screens, similar to the Iphone. You read their specs first before deciding better. I played with the X10 at 313 Starhub some weeks ago. Galaxy I tried at the SingTel Comcentre hello shop last weekend. Not sure if there are other places with "live" models for tryout.
Genie47 1st Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 Tried the Galaxy S at the Samsung store at Causeway Pt. The phone's screen is HUGE. Fiddled around with it. Very iPhone like in appearance.

I had such a high expectation for the Galaxy because of the 1GHz processor but I feel a little let down because the flicking/scrolling is still a little jerky and some programs take a little time to launch. Not sure why since the processor is so fast. Maybe it's the settings. do you have the same experience?
Unfair 3rd Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 Launching programs not based purely on processor, Memory plays a part, iphone is faster cause its running on flash, thus limited in the size of the flash memory..
Kxbc Turbocharged June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 I see. Overall, Galaxy still a good performer. Just that my expectation was set much higher earlier. Plus point for the Galaxy: Damn chio screen. Big, bright and clear.

Chewbacca 1st Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 I think I'll get the Galaxy. Will do that when I get back to Singapore. Stupid crap Sony Ericsson phone is crappily stupid. Normally, I wait until my contract ends before getting a new phone, because, seriously, I don't really care about phones. But......I guess I'm forced to, this time.
