Hi all,

I am quite new to Android phone. Recently just got a HTC Desire. I have couple of queries which I hope the android gurus can advise me...

From the start, I am using the messaging app (from HTC) that came with the phone but I recently downloaded the Handcent messaging app when I found it to be quite "fun"... But now I realised that when there is message coming in, it triggers both apps and i would received the same message in 2 different apps...

Is it wise to delete the HTC message app and keep the Handcent?.. In the future, if i decided to use back the HTC message app, will it be possible to download it again from somewhere?... Please advise...

As per the microSD card, may I know exactly what it is used for?... Initially I thought it is used for installation of apps but it seems the apps can only be installed in the phone memory itself... Now the phone memory is getting lower while the microSD card memory does not seems to have any usage at all...

Please kindly advise me... Thank you for all your input....

no need to delete. just go to the htc msg app setting and turn off notifications.

for microSD, in andriod 2.2 (froyo) apps will be allowed to install into SD card. however developers must first program their apps to do that. so only newer apps will be able to have that option. but u still must wait until htc come out with 2.2 for desire..

I've seen it on my friends hd2.

Lag like mad. No thanks.

For the novelty yes. For Long term usage no

Which Andriod phone have GPS that doesn't consume data plan?

Any free GPS application, that does include maps and no need to use data.

I want to use it for Malaysia trip and switch off data roaming but only utilize the GPS location and full GPS map application.

Previously used Dopod 810 before and its work great with garmin application without any data plan.

You can look for Papago X5 which use malfreemaps but last update is April this year... Thanks to some a-----e who tried to profit from the free map, malfreemap has dropped support for Papago.

I like Papago's display of the image of the junction. Impressive, but their routing sucks. Garmin by far is still the best... That's the only thing I miss in my former Windows Mobile phone

MFM map support for Papago is back again with the Free MFM-Papago Map Beta v1.0

Sorry, I made a mistake.... That link you gave is the last version.... July 23rd. No further release liao...

I think they will continue to support Papago but the update will not be as frequent as the weekly MFM map update for Garmin.

OK for those with the Android phones but for the strangest of all reasons suffering under Google's lousy decision of not providing turn-by-turn voice nav with Google Maps have an option.

The new LG Optimus One comes equipped with turn-by-turn thanks to a 3rd party software called NDrive.

http://www.ndriveweb.com/

So this integrates voice nav with Google Maps. Now this comes with the Optimus One. So what about us other users with our Androids but no nav? You can buy NDrive.

It is in Android Market for EUR19.99.
