if i did not research wrongly, a 4 year old getz would cost slightly lower than 30k ( average about 25-27k?) and a 4 year old latio would cost slightly higher than 30k. about 34k?

see my post #15....

you're absolutely right....

a typical 4yr old Latio is going at $35k average???

Hypersonic

If the size is ok with you get the swift esp 1.5l.

If you need more space then get the Latio.

Your money, your choice.

6th Gear

the only mod i will be getting for my car would be ICE and probably some decent bodykits if the car doesnt alr has it.

as for the performance, im only asking for some decent acceleration power not some kind of insane supercar specs. i usually travel on the lengthy expressways all the way to the west and with the experience of the sunny, with some baggage and 2-3 passengers i would be severely underpowered. im quite a heavy footer so im only asking for a better power to weight ratio to begin with. so im wondering if the latio would have an improved power compared with the sunny and the swift. i definitely know the constraints of singapore roads as i've been the ones in the jam complaining about it but im only a weekend city driver. weekdays its all the way up west.

being someone who travels on the neverending expressway everyday it is only natural that the same repetitive journey becomes tiresome and then one yearns to quickly get to the destination. that explains why i need or rather want a car with decent acceleration/power.

In my opinion, if you need boot and/or interior space, Latio or Lancer would be better choices.

For decent bodykit, Latio may not fare as good as the lancer. For pickup and acceleration, both should be about the same.

The next thing which is the most important cos it is gonna hurt yr wallet is the FC. FC for Latio is good as compared to Lancer.

CVT lancer gives about 10-12 while I understand Latio can go up to 14-15.

Latio has a better technology than the lancer which is using the old but yet reliable 4G18 engine. This is to factor in your decision to keep the car for short term or long term. Which brings me to the next issue: Go for a 2nd hand which is quite new and might have some warranty with AD. It is hard to tell when the major components (esp for Auto) such as gearbox, aircon compressor, engine mountings etc.) would fail during the time as one bought the car.

hmmm with all these advantages to the latio, definitely makes a good buy. so im now thinking if the latio is worth the additional probably 4-5k savings i can get with a same age swift.

I drive a Swift Sport Auto and am a pretty average-footed driver and I am getting 12km/l on average for the past 1.5 years I have been driving.

If you are looking for boot size, Swift might not be a very good choice.

Performance wise, it picks up faster mainly due to its power to weight ratio and hence, if you are ferrying more than 1 passenger, you can actually feel that its working harder than normal. The rear passenger seats can be quite squeezy.

And I am talking about the Swift Sport, so if you are considering the Swift 1.5A, it probably doesn't fit your daily requirements of ferrying 2 passengers and not feeling underpowered?

Adding on, since you are planning on installing ICE in your car, it will probably damage your power to weight ratio more.

ferrying 2 passengers is nt my daily requirements, its juz and occasional liability. =p

hmm so from what you are saying, the swift performs comparatively better than another car when it is light(1driver) whereas it is probably worse off than the same car when both has 2 or 3 passengers?

i'll only be looking for mid-range items, probably around 1-3k range not the kind of exorbitant 10k+ gadgets..have not done my research for replacing speakers and getting a subwoofer in.

U still need to think huh? The latio of course if u have a family or want something more spacious than the sunny. Latio is technologically packed and comes with things like plasma ion cluster. And since the chassis is based on a Renault Clio, it should be and will be the safest car among all those u listed. What's not to like about the latio other than the looks of the sedan? Spacious, economical, low maintenance, reliable, safe and loads of equipment.

Well, I normally drive alone or with 1 other passenger in my car and I have an "implanted" idea of how fast my car should pick up in that situation. However, you can really feel the car working harder when you are ferrying 2-3 passengers. Pick-up speed will be affected and you can actually feel the difference.

Since you normally go on the expressway and not frequently ferrying people, it will probably be an enjoyable ride on a Swift.

Then again, I must say I am talking about the Swift Sport where the pick-up is better than the normal Swift and I have not driven a Swift 1.5A before, so my comparison might not be sufficient for you to make your decision.

P.S. One of the cons on the Swift Sport will probably be the stiff suspension when you can practically feel every bump and holes on the road.

Hey pple, thinking of getting a 2nd hand car with budget at about 30k. preferably not more than 4 years old.

have done some research for the past few months and came up conclusive with a few shortlisted.

1. Suzuki Swift 1.5A/1.3A

2. Chevrolet Aveo SS 1.4A

3. Mistubishi Lancer GLX 1.6A

4. Honda City 1.5A

5. Hyundai Getz

6. Toyota Yaris

7. Nissan Latio

i would like to ask if the difference in fuel consumption is really that big if you are comparing probably 11-11.5km/l. does the 0.5km/l has a great effect? as ive been reading many reviews, these cars have arguably small difference in fuel consumption?

[based on $1.87 at 20km/yr, each 1km/l saved you around $20-25 bucks]

also whether the power to weight ratio is the main factor to the pickup and performance of the car?

[less weight more power ... your sunny is underpower due to its weight]

would like to ask your opinion on which car is the best among those listed?

i'm currently having the swift as my first choice as it seems to have the best performance and value for money compared to the others.

though the getz and aveo are relatively cheaper but it seems to me that the getz is largely underpowered. is it true? is it worse than the sunny or better in terms of power? im also rather dumbfounded at why the aveo has such a high depreciation rate? it is available at cheaper than the swift!

[i have driven getz 1.6m before and due to it's weight, you can feel more power as compare to your sunny. Pickup is definately better, FC 10.5-11.5 ]

the only thing about the swift is that i heard it has rather small interior space compared to the rest. is the interior of lancer much better than the swift? is so, is it comparable in terms of value for money and performance wise?

[interior lancer looks old but spacious]

im currently experienced in driving a sunny 1.6 EX and looking to get an improved drive for the 2nd car.

[With budget ~30k, i will get a manual lancer for the improved drive, space and sporty look... the only good point with swift is the handling is better ]

hope to hear some opinions! =)

latio anytime, for the FC, perceived safety, and its even got keyless go (i think)

check out this accident which happened in front of my house.. wish front hit latio right rear. see which is stronger.

Based on 12km/l vs 15km/l, 20km/yr, $1.70/l (after discount) and 6 years of drive.

$567 savings per yr.

6 years will yield $3402.

Try not to focus too much on the FC.

Savings not that significant.

The 1.6M Getz is actually quite nicely powered.
