Choosing my car

Hey pple, thinking of getting a 2nd hand car with budget at about 30k. preferably not more than 4 years old.

have done some research for the past few months and came up conclusive with a few shortlisted.

1. Suzuki Swift 1.5A/1.3A

2. Chevrolet Aveo SS 1.4A

3. Mistubishi Lancer GLX 1.6A

4. Honda City 1.5A

5. Hyundai Getz

6. Toyota Yaris

7. Nissan Latio

i would like to ask if the difference in fuel consumption is really that big if you are comparing probably 11-11.5km/l. does the 0.5km/l has a great effect? as ive been reading many reviews, these cars have arguably small difference in fuel consumption?

also whether the power to weight ratio is the main factor to the pickup and performance of the car?

would like to ask your opinion on which car is the best among those listed?

i'm currently having the swift as my first choice as it seems to have the best performance and value for money compared to the others.

though the getz and aveo are relatively cheaper but it seems to me that the getz is largely underpowered. is it true? is it worse than the sunny or better in terms of power? im also rather dumbfounded at why the aveo has such a high depreciation rate? it is available at cheaper than the swift!

the only thing about the swift is that i heard it has rather small interior space compared to the rest. is the interior of lancer much better than the swift? is so, is it comparable in terms of value for money and performance wise?

im currently experienced in driving a sunny 1.6 EX and looking to get an improved drive for the 2nd car.

hope to hear some opinions! =)

Difference of 0.5km/l, no big deal. 1-2km/l then will see some diff.

Latio could easily gives you 1-2km/l more than you current Sunny.

Based on your last requirement, I think only Latio is better than your Sunny.

City is too ex.

latio is actually around the same price as city i think comparing with same mileage and date of registration. correct me if im wrong.

i tink a swift would be relatively cheaper compared to both of them.. swift's not better than a sunny? o.O

wow....

was amazed you factored in City into your consideration....

i'm not sure about 2nd hand City, but for a brand new one, it's around $10k more than the Latio at least....

Comparing swift between the Sunny, swift does offer a better drive due to the smaller size and lesser weight the engine has to carry around, however, rear seat space is definitely tighter than the Sunny, and seating 3 across in the rear can be a quarrelsome affair at times....

i'd think among all the cars you've shorlisted, i'd pick the Latio without a question of doubt....it has a spacious interior, pretty decent and light drive, good fuel economy, but that's if you can live with the looks of the car though...

Cheers!!

hmm, i can live with the latio's exterior, but im wondering if its much more underpowered compared with the swift?

well,

unless you're considering the Suzuki Swift Sports (SSS), the Latio is really on par with the Swift 1.5L too....

but it really depends on your needs....

if drivability is of utmost importance, the Swift 1.5A will be the better buy...

however, if space is what you need, the Latio is the clear winner...

the rest of the choices i think you can chug them somewhere else???

haha

I thinks TS likes swift, keeps comparings swift!

I would say the fuel comsumptions are not significant compared to the inflated car price now due to the COE price hike.

Just buy from direct owner from sgcarmart if you wish to save some money.

I would say Latio is a good choice for good fuel economy and

Interior space and booth space!

Latio is my pick. Its a more classy with better built interior than the rest.

My opinion is based on my largely relaxed attitude towards driving where its more of a pleasure than a chore.

City is good but overpriced.

A close friend drives a Latio and gets 12.5km/l for city driving. Interior is good and comparable to Allion.

Swift is ok...with relatively good performance but so-so interior.

Drove the Yaris for 2 weeks overseas and its quite good...except i don't really like its shape. Also its light in weight so keep a tight grip on your steering when a bus overtakes you on M'sia highway.

Don't get Aveo cos my office colleague has been bitching about his fuel consumption of 9km/l...that for a 1.4l car mystifies me. :o

Lancer is a good all rounder...especially the manual version. Its a rugged car and can last. But its very common. Good point is that its much cheaper than the rest.

I have never tried the Getz.

So my pick will be Latio followed by Lancer.

Just my 2 cents worth.

i keep comparing swift because i feel that its cheaper than latio! =p

I dont mean to be rude but lets face it

Swift for performance?? what performance? And with the kind of traffic in sg now, I dont even see a fraction of my 260 italian horses. On weekends in town I even drive a 1.5L mpv. Oh, and yes, I even overtake much more powerful cars in it, thanx to the massive jams. And in all honesty, I even wondered why I bought a 3.2 since the way u drive largely depends on the traffic condition.

I can forsee that in a short while u will be spending even more money to mod the car over and over again; with the money spent u could've just gone straight for something like a wrx.

If I'm in your shoes, i'd get the latio simply for space and boot. and not try to get some half-past-six 'performance'. Its more important to stay comfy when caught in a jam; not just you, but who you are ferrying.

I know for a fact that nissan sunny has ridiculous space. I bought and sold one away within a few months. The latio is much more comfy.

yup....

going above 120kph in singapore is now becoming too far-fetched a dream....

if you want a sporty drive, i think what you want is to hear the high revving sound of the engine....of which case, a QQ 0.8L is good enough to meet your needs everytime you need to drive....

power is useless in urban city traffic....

what you want is something lively to drive around and something underpowered....

Anyway sorry to disappoint u too.

But I think with 30k, Half of the cars u mentioned at least, are no where near that price.

I don't think a 4 year old getz costs the same as a 4 yr old latio or even worse, around 30k

the only mod i will be getting for my car would be ICE and probably some decent bodykits if the car doesnt alr has it.

as for the performance, im only asking for some decent acceleration power not some kind of insane supercar specs. i usually travel on the lengthy expressways all the way to the west and with the experience of the sunny, with some baggage and 2-3 passengers i would be severely underpowered. im quite a heavy footer so im only asking for a better power to weight ratio to begin with. so im wondering if the latio would have an improved power compared with the sunny and the swift. i definitely know the constraints of singapore roads as i've been the ones in the jam complaining about it but im only a weekend city driver. weekdays its all the way up west.

being someone who travels on the neverending expressway everyday it is only natural that the same repetitive journey becomes tiresome and then one yearns to quickly get to the destination. that explains why i need or rather want a car with decent acceleration/power.

if i did not research wrongly, a 4 year old getz would cost slightly lower than 30k ( average about 25-27k?) and a 4 year old latio would cost slightly higher than 30k. about 34k?

friend,

as you've said you're a heavy footer....

just tap a bit harder on the Latio lah...that will get you faster to your destination....

but frankly how fast can you travel on singapore's road nowadays, be it in the city area or expressways???

the Latio can do 160kph no problems at all, even with 3pax and some stuff in the boot....

just tap harder lor....

revving the engine every now and then also makes the engine run smoother too....
