Dull and Boring Cars???

are we all deemed to be driving really boring and dull cars in today's world???

 

major renowned car manufacturers sure seem to be producing many models in their stable, however, they fail to excite customers....

 

the Chinese however, duplicate copies on such 'boring and dull' cars, making them into much livelier designs....or at least something unique....

 

why can't mainstream car manufacturers create something with a WOW factor, something currently only Ferrari's/ Lamborghinis customers have the privilege to ascertain to???

WoW factor is determined by Design + Price/How often u see them on the road.

 

Therefore, part of the wow factor is price tag and limited edition.

 

If ferrari 599 GTB costs 50k in SG and every 20+ year old owns one i doubt there will be wow factor anymore.

 

So i dun think its the design problem.

They used to make interesting cars like the MR2/MR-S, the Supras and even oddball cars like the Sera (which is really just a souped up Starlet wearing an evening gown). Consumers decided they didn't like fun cars to drive, so Toyota stopped making them. :(

 

And it's hard to make a fun car that's cheap and practical. Can you imagine a mid-engine rear-wheel drive pin-sharp handling family saloon with blistering performance as well as all the creature comforts and safety features that we now expect out of even bread and butter cars?

Doesn't have to be mid-engine, but I think BMW would come closest to that compromise.

Agree. I remember I was very excited when I drove my 1st car, it was a 2nd hand 12 years old Daihstau Charade. But now, even a Camry make me bored.

Krado post is funny but unfortunately true.

 

The roads are more important than the car.

 

I used a drive a small 1.2l punto in U.K. The power sucks but its very fun to drive especially along the smaller roads. In fact I prefer the smaller a45 than the famous M6, M40 motorway (which feature many time in top gears) due to the sights & farmlands. Its really refreshing to see the seasons change (as well as temperature) as the time passes. You can just feel the Autumn approaching when the trees start going colorful & Christmas Holiday are coming with dropped temperatures, frosty morning, bare trees & rain turn to snow.

 

Same road, but looks different at different period of the year. Not to mention its so much less stressful to drive as the people are so friendly on the road disprite generally having to drive longer trips than Singapore.

 

Now I drive a a more sporty car in Singapore, I thought it will be extremely fun with the added power & I always wanted a sport car at some point of time. But the condition in Singapore just make the experience a lot to be desired.

 

More like boring (& crowded) road than cars here.
