Baddata Neutral Newbie April 17, 2010 Share April 17, 2010 HI Fellas, Considering this for my wife to ferry the kids and general family use. Is it a friendly car to drive? What options are there? how is the turn radius and pick up ? how about general ergonomics? any special things to look out for? Thank you I drive one, Design - Due to its boxy shape, you'll love it or hate it. One unique thing about xroad, you can mod it to have urban look or off road look. I have not seen any xroad that look like another car though. Maybe some resemblance to the H3. Pickup - I guess this is a major concern when one is buying xroad. I often got this question when someone on the street wanted to know more abt xroad. Yes, it look big and heavy and as if it was carved from a metal block, but its kerb weight is only 40kg more than stream stock vs stock. Both xroad and stream are on r18 engine with similar bhp and torque. Better still, get the 2ltr. If you are an off road enthusiast, get the 4wd. Fuel Consumption - I'm light footed, when stock I often got 12 - 13 km/l (70/30 Highway/City). After some mod (raised suspension and oversize tyres) it lingers around 11km/l. Road Handling - Overall i feel, its a fun car to drive with precise steering response, steering is soft at low speed and stiffen at high speed. Best, try go for a test drive. Stability - The driving position is higher than normal sedan, higher cg, so expect more body roll during corners and bends, common for any SUV. Stable at high speed. Room space - It can sit 5 adults and 2 kids comfortably, but then, you can forget about bootspace. However the last row can be folded down when you need it. The second row seats can be adjusted for more legroom. Overall i'm very satisfied with the ride, will try to keep it as long as possible. ↡ Advertisement
Throttle2 Supersonic April 18, 2010 Author Share April 18, 2010 hi. i'll give my opinion on this ride, hope you don't mind. i sat in one before, cannot complain much about interior comfort and ride quality, very decent and average at the same time. exterior, its not my cup of tea. if you look around, most crossroads on our roads have some exterior modifications. i have seen very extreme one as well as very stock ones, but they tend to give me a feeling that they are trying to resemble something else. i dont know their true agenda behind those mods, but i know alot of people (not friends, just acquaintances) who would laugh at crossroads with mods. so, i feel that this car, with its looks and size and resemblance to another car, has given it bad reputation and put it under a bad light. i doubt you or your wife will give it complete black matt finish and 20" bling bling rims.. but even so you'll probably get stares while driving. its not my cup of tea for design because, its too boxy and i think the height should be increased to compliment the boxy design. Thanks XMint, i will keep it stock as usual. at most add 19" ... It's goona be a bump around rough use car anyway, so wont be totally bothered. I do like the boxed look... Throttle2 Supersonic April 18, 2010 Author Share April 18, 2010 (edited) thx Jaffa and Baddata thats good reviews. I dont demand much pickup nor too much driving pleasure for this car. It's really for family use only. anything above 10km/liter consumption would be great, to me. I have a fren driving one so I will try to see if I can get my butt into the driver's for a moment. anyway, my wife has the last say, it's my money but it's gonna be her car. maybe she would prefer a Suzuki Swift or a Golf or Mini even, although i think it would be too small and defeat the purpose of family car. I dont know. we'll see Thanks All. Edited April 18, 2010 by Throttle2

Extramint Clutched April 18, 2010 Share April 18, 2010 actually, besides crossroad, do you have anything else in mind? one thing about crossroad is, due to its boxy design, the advantage about it is you get alot of purposeful space that doesnt consists of weird angles. you'll understand what i mean once you take a look at other SUVs in the market. maybe can check the latest tucson, sorento. outlander also have new model, don't know whether is FL or whole new model, shares the lancer front grille but existing outlander rear lamps. others that will come into mind easily will be toyota's vanguard, rav4 and nissan's dualis/qashqai and murano. all these are pretty decent cars. on a side note personally, i won't recommend the honda CRV. drives like a normal car but sounds like lorry. rather take the crossroad. If it's gonna be an SUV then , it'll most likely be the XRd. Dualis and CX7 also worth considering. otherwise, i was thinking an E200. anyway, the final decision doesnt come from me. Watwheels Supersonic April 18, 2010 Share April 18, 2010 I think it's better to let your wife choose. Their pov is different from us guys. It may be alright for us but might not be for them. One thing I notice about women drivers are their sense of judgment. They must be able to see as much of the bonnet and boot as possible cos they dunno how to agar agar. That's why small cars with a short snot and short rear end are their fav cos they can see where these 2 things are and not rub or bang them against smth. The practical stuff will be of less priority vs drivability for their "limited" driving capability.

Throttle2 Supersonic April 19, 2010 Author Share April 19, 2010 i just checked the specs of CrossRd. It's actually a really small car. but the height and boxy design makes it look and feel big. it's 50cm shorter and 10cm narrower than my Six !!! Only get Dualis/QashQai if driver's height is below 1.7m - the seat is very high. This car is very easy to drive. U turn no problem. About the same size as XRD. FC 10km/L based on 40%HW. CX7 is too big for me - parking will be a problem. This is almost a full size SUV so FC is jialat and the 2.3T power is just average. CX7 has More gadgets and safety than Dualis. The_Bear Turbocharged April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 (edited) i just checked the specs of CrossRd. It's actually a really small car. but the height and boxy design makes it look and feel big. it's 50cm shorter and 10cm narrower than my Six !!! I am driving a 1.8 Xroad since 07. It is a good car to own and I have not regretted my decision to get the x-road. Mileage is nearly 70,000km and so far, not a single problem. Regular servicing at any workshop will do. I agree with wat the other 2 owners got to say abt the X-road. My FC is ard 12km/l. My record is 18km/l on Singapore highway, driving like a wimp. On heavy days, it goes down to 10.5km/l. Power is sufficient for SGP driving and light throttle and steering, the steering is even lighter than a Gen 1 Jazz. Compared to a Beemer, its the kindof car you wanna take out when u wan a really short relax drive nearby or u gotta move the TV set. I got mine X-road completely stock cos I got afew PI to quote basic. Meaning without leather seats, radio, sun block (watever u call tat) etc etc Its still in the original fabric cos they are built to last. Check out the Honda Jap Website.http://www.honda.co.jp/CROSSROAD/ Installed a radio later and changed to alloy rims after the first set wears out, same size. Been to Hatyai, Cameroon, KL alot. FC goes down tremendously on NS Highway (I suspect to the the car's boxy shape). At speed above 150km/h, FC goes down to 9km/l. Max cruising speed is ard 180km/h, dats all the way the needle goes anyway. Wind noise above 120km/h is loud. You are right, the X-road is not a big car but its just spacious inside. 3rd row only for torturing bad friends. Interior is spartan but well built. Chunky buttons and matted surfaces takes alot of beating. I treat my cars rough. Use it more like a van. Most of my friends think its a swell car. You get alot of questions from strangers about the car too. There is nothing much like it in the price segment and the x-road will complement ur 6 nicely. If you need the contact for the PI whom I bought, you can PM me. He was honest and helpful. Edited April 22, 2010 by Bavarian
Babyt 4th Gear April 22, 2010 Share April 22, 2010 crossroad has a more sporty look that qashqai/dualis. if you dont want the boxy look, qashqai/dualis may be another choice coz its look more passive (doesnt shout boxy or sporty). i was choosing between these 2 models but i go for qashqai due to AD model and its 2L. Throttle2 Supersonic April 22, 2010 Author Share April 22, 2010 (edited) thanks again folks for informative comments and reviews. I am definitely not buying new....was thinking a 2007 model....and trash it around like Bavarian until COE end. Yesterday was around Arab st victoria street area for dinner and cigar, 2 CRossroads (one white one black) came and parked in front of me. one with big wheels and pretty highly sprung. but both still look quite good. now just waiting to see when the time comes. hhmmm,.....anyone wants a Six? becos with a Crossroad , i can consider a 2 seater car for my own use .....
