inlinesix Hypersonic July 22, 2010 Share July 22, 2010 Hi guys, sorry for hijacking this thread but I can't start any new posts as I'm a newbie and my situation is somewhat urgent. My motor insurance and road tax expires in August. However, I'm having difficulties renewing my insurance policy as my vehicle was involved in an accident more than a year ago, and the claims have not been fully settled yet. The final amount could add up to $50k+, and that is enough to convince my current insurer AIG, as well as the major insurance companies I've contacted (NTUC, AXA, Aviva etc) not to insure me. Problem is, my son was the one driving the vehicle at that time. Also, he is likely to be at fault in this accident. Is there any way to convince the insurers that he would not be allowed to drive the vehicle if they insure it, or is there an insurance company out there that is willing to cover me despite the vehicle's history of claims? I'll really appreciate it if anyone could offer any advice, or help me obtain quotes (if at all possible) for this vehicle. Thanks for reading. Wif newcomer like Aviva & Directasia coming into our mkt, premium rates are falling across the board. However, industry claims still around 80% of premium. As u have a claim that big, there are only a few option left: 1. Hamburger suggestion 2. Put a clause which says that only name driver is cover 3. Put a clause which says that only name driver is cover + a celling on claims amount 4. Sell ur car & take MRT/Bus/Taxi Good luck!! ↡ Advertisement
Asdfghjkl Neutral Newbie July 22, 2010 Share July 22, 2010 Now the landscape of motor insurance has changed. Many insurers will not renew your policy if you unlucky and got a big accident. You are stranded and can't get any insurance at all. I think this is not very fair thing to do. Some insurers are very famous for this and for me, I will try to avoid such insurers. Normally 1 big accident claim might stop some insurers from quoting you new policies. There will always be someone who will take up your case no matter how, Just that your premium is really high. But if you keep getting into accidents, like 3 in 1 yr, you will find it harder and harder to find a willing insurer.

Phid Neutral Newbie November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 (edited) Hi everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post. I need advice from bros here. I'll probably get my 2nd hand car tomorrow afternoon. Everything is settled except for insurance. I have a few questions and greatly appreciate bros can spend some time answering or advising me. 1. My dealer got some quotations for insurance which is quite high. up to 2.9K. Lowest I got from dealer is Chartis (ex AIG) 2.4K with $500 excess. I got about 2.1k - 2.2k from online quote for AVIVA. I read through this thread and mostly agree AVIVA has one of the lowest quotes. But how reliable is AVIVA? 2. Between Chartis (2.4K) and AVIVA (2.2K), which one would u choose? Would love to know why. 3. Is it possible to collect and drive home my 2nd hand ride without securing the insurance by the dealer? I might prefer settle my insurance on my own AFTER collecting the car. Not for very long but at most 1 day after collecting the car. Please advise. More about me, 28yrs, 6 yrs clean licence, Mit Colt Plus 1.5A, indoor job, first motor insurance, first car under my name I'm new and I plan to be active here in MCF seeking and contributing help whenever possible. Thanks upfront to all bros/sis who replies. Edited November 30, 2010 by Phid

Phid Neutral Newbie December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 Thanks for the adivise. My quotations for AVIVA and DirectAsia is about the same. But still lowest compared to the others. DirectAsia's policy is not bad, but need to read up on their fineprints. I'll check out AVIVA's policy and will decide between these 2. Anyway it's no issue if you dun get involved in accidents right?
Phid Neutral Newbie December 1, 2010 Share December 1, 2010 So it's now between AVIVA or DirectAsia for me. Just a matter of which provides better service/coverage. Any takes guys? I heard 2nd car dealers won't allow you to take other insurance other than the ones listed by them. Is it true?

Last year I only pay $700plus for my insurance. AIG aka chartis quoted me $721 / $806(with NCD protector) excess of $800 (for any driver above 30s) Aviva quoted me $597 excess 1k or $613 excess $750 (Windscreen excess $100, they dont have NCD protector) (for any driver above 30s) Edited December 1, 2010 by Dafansu

Aviva's quote to me now is the cheapest but the access i volunteered to put in another 250 and it drastically lowered the access! wondered if i did the right thing? others will give me access of 500 or 600 but this aviva its 500 but i volunteered another 250 so its 750 and its the cheapest i ever found below 900! Others quoted me like 1.2k. My NCD is 30+5% only
