Ake109 6th Gear December 2, 2015 Share December 2, 2015 I just filled my car with the Shell Helix Ultra 5-40 from Giant (39.90). It definitely feels better than the Elf 10-50 I was using. I am normally not sensitive to stuff like this but the car just felt better (NVH and response incl spool). Yes it might be my mind playing tricks, but at the very least it wasn't like what some previous posters were saying about how it made the car rough etc. ↡ Advertisement

Eric76 1st Gear December 2, 2015 Share December 2, 2015 In another aspect, you should roughly be able to calculate how much a shop can earn from a simple oil change if you use oil supplied by them, NTUC/Giant can get those staff at much cheaper cost than the retail price, so do they, don't tell me those supermarket loss money sell you this it will never happen. I mean i can accept they own some money by this but the margin is just making us like fool!

Workers there doing all the dirty job for you just to earn few tens of your dollars and most of us here can easily get more than that just by staring at computer monitor. Is your boss such a fool to pay you so much. I have seen how they replace EO, it's a bit dirty but very simple work and that's their job, they own a living based on their skill, ppl open computer can earn more than them does not mean unfair, how much they are rewarded depends on how much value produced by the work, what a admin staff earn by open com is not same as a IT specialist open his laptop. I am running my small business also but i just found car shop business is really a good one, maybe plan to open one in future haha, by the time i sure give discount to all MCF members, LOL.... Hiaceminibus Clutched December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 The question is, where to DIY. DIY at MSCP. Sometime when I have the mood I change my own brake pad and tyre rotation. If you know your workshop well enough they can help you dispose the used engine oil.

If car dont vibrate after rotation it ok. Most tyre shop dont balance the rear wheel when doing rotation also. Yah doesnt cost much but some will feel that paying $20 to unscrew few lug nut not worth the money.

What car you want to change on? I assume no skid plate and using metal disposable filter ? The filter can you touch it when your car is on four wheels? For some cars especially large ones, it is blocked by one wheel and is harder to get to without getting under it. I see on Youtube, seems likely to have to access it from the bottom. Like that I have to jack up the car and put it on jack stands. I was readin that it is not safe relying on the jack, also, that some jack stands may collapse due to quality. Maybe I think too much ! So bottom line, let people do it. Its simply not worth the trouble. That is if they do it correctly. Usually the EO will get overfilled.

I change oil without jacks but if you want you can try to jack the right front without having the wheel lift off the ground, just to raise it a bit higher but after a while dun need to even jack it. ↡ Advertisement
