Very well written by Christopher Tan, enjoy reading reading.....

Point. 1

"In the early noughties, the number of COEs released had always been far fewer than actual deregistrations. Then in the last five years, we witnessed an oversupply that caused car premiums to crash."

Point 2.

"This effect was in play between 1990 and 1999, when the supply formula was based on past deregistrations."

Point 3

"In the case of the maiden quota of the new formula, the supply will also be abnormally low because it is based on deregistrations in 2009, a recessionary year which saw the number of cars scrapped or re-exported falling to the lowest level in 10 years."

buy if you really need the car and cannot tahan public transport / public transport cannot help

hold if u don't need the money now and can wait for better price to sell, eg when COE hit $80k....make some profit

sell now if you need the money now and have recovered from negative equity in the car and can rely on public transport

I didn't know actually it is a LPPL policy, just that previous LP (12 mths) is bigger than current PL (6 mths) :D[laugh]

2nd hand prices will go up but not as much as COE prices due to its much lower paper value

so go 2nd hand now for new buyers

[;)]

if u bought between 2007 to 2009, no need to do anything if your car good condition, just hold on to your pot of gold

because COE will go up higher and higher from now

:D

if you are one of the rare species still holding to pre-2003 high COE cars, i salute you

you bought at high COE, tahan all the years till now, when going to change car soon in 2 to 3yr time, need to buy high again

[bigcry]

Actually for my 2yo car, the 2nd hand mkt selling price is ridiculous for buyer.

It's $200 to 2k off the sticker price I paid for 2 years ago. which is not 'reasonable'

If one needs a car, u need to find a car that is reasonably priced.

But then I am saying this because I already have a car. If desperate for car and need to find a 2nd hand maybe really no choice.

Option 4: Wait and see

This is for folks with relatively new cars.

There is really no need to get rid of your car once it approaches five years.

You can use it right up to the day before it turns 10 and it won't fall to pieces (well, a few might, but let's not name names here).

MIC cars?
