Alfa Romeo Giulietta

hi guys,

I am enjoying the ride of 1.4 Giulietta for 2.5 years, happy to share my thoughts:

(1) Sluggish pickup for first gear - lacking throttle response but second gear onwards is much better especially when turbo kicks in

(2) Aircon Filter - the dust, smoke will still enter the car no matter how I adjust the airconditiong system - solution is to get a mechanic to seal the vent entirely

(3) Overall Built Quality - My engine mounting had cracks and was replaced at about 40K servicing, right now I am at 69K and have some problems with that again as have some noises and vibration coming from under the bonnett, suspecting its engine mounting.

Sharing my "dislikes" is not to discourage anyone from buying but more of what to expect, afterall every car has got its strengths and weakness.

I fins the Giulietta a good value for money buy in this current market, when we take into its factors of looks and performance - you will enjoy the power of its dynamic mode + paddle shift. For me this is definitely a keeper with some change of exhaust and fine tuning of air intake and intercooler etc.

I do servicing every 10K as recommeded - you can go to Alfa website to get a breakdown and estimated price of what's to be done for every servicing, timing belt to be changed every 50K. Average each servicing will cost about $400 -$ 500 without any major replacements. So far I have changed my battery once and I will disengage the start-stop function as I heard it might damage the starter on long term basis as well it depletes the battery faster. I believe the frequent use of dynamic mode + paddle shift will have impact on battery life span as well after its electronics...

Hello!

Keen to form an alfa giulietta chatgroup, anyone keen?

My giulietta experience after having it for 1 year:

+

1. Little electrical hazards like previous generations

2. Good handling ability at stock - You can negotiate BKE/KJE S bend at 110km/h safe

3. Turbo boost fast and good mid end power

4. The multiair engine makes very good engine growl and exhaust sounds good. Imagine it with sports exhaust, the sound is sweet.

5. Dual Clutch TCT is quite durable to trashing

6. Brakes are good for stock

7. Sitting position is comfortable

Area of improvements:

1. Looks is too cute, need to add on bodykit to give it a bit oomph
2. Turbo is small, so high end is something you may lack (but can be fixed)

3. Spool time is fast, but gear 1 is flat at stock (but can be fixed from other's experience)

4. Steering wheel is a bit big.

Experience the G today!!

I thought this thread is for Alfa Giulietta? [laugh]

I would like to join the chatgroup although i don't own the Giulietta.

I had test drive QV Line and give me good feel especially this is only 1.4 engine and road tax is low. however, the maintenance is like giving me a "wow"... average $400 - $500 per normal servicing... it is quite high maintenance to me...

especially the down payment is giving me headache... haha... 50% downpayment is the killer... :lll._.:

Hi,

I am thinking of buying this:

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=513811&DL=1103

I would appreciate if anyone can share some opinions or know the owner. I can only tell the front spoiler has been replaced.

I have never owned nor driven an Alfa, only visited their showroom to see the Guilietta. My main concern is maintenance, parts and reliability. My previous cars were RX7 (series 1) and Porsche 911 (964), frankly I was traumatized by their peculiar maintenance (tell you more if you are interested). Now I still miss those throaty roars that make car hifi useless.

Do you think Giulietta is suitable for my character as you can assume ?

Maybe the Alfa Giulietta 1.8 QV suits u better. Or the Giulia. Or an M4. Haha

Good recommendation but I no longer willing to own beyond anything such as a basic Giulietta, provided it is low maintenance.

I appreciate if Giulietta owners give their opinions:

- The Giulietta on sale in sgcarmart.

- Should I be worried about maintenance, parts and reliability ?

- Is the authorized dealer willing to sell parts to external mechanics ?

- Can Giulietta roar loud enough that you cannot hear your car hifi OR is it as sissy as MX5 or MINI Cooper S ?

Yes, I am new to Alfa and I heard 'buy Alfa with your heart' but I still don't want to end up with a problem. And I am already a sort of petrol-head so cannot appreciate TopGear's 'become petrol-head when you own an Alfa'.

Bro Vquah is right.

Have u test driven one before?

Even the 1.8 leaves some to be desired.

So coming from your background, I believe it just won't cut it.

All the best in ur quest tho

Frankly.....I think you should give this a skip....it will not satisfy you.

A better bet maybe is a 147 3.2 with that beautiful v6 note but no hope left in finding one in SG

Thanks for all your comments, appreciated.

I got my answers.

Welcome any suggestion (new or pre-owned) for a tight budget of around $120k.

Was surprise no one in favour of giulietta, is a decent car with good handling and power.

128k with 3yr maintenance and 1yr free insurance.

Price is competitive to there jape car in that rang.

Is there any unknown thing I don't know about this car? Like vw famous dsg??

Hi!

1. The bodykit of the alfa you looking at is pretty stock

2. Maintenance for the engine and moving parts is still ok, given that is still quite new. However aircon, is something you must watch out for. Italians not very good in aircon. I had a few kinks with mine.

3. Buy the parts from online like www.shop4parts.co.uk or EbSpare. Should be relatively cheap

4. Stock exhaust of the alfa is bassy and nice to hear. I heard giulietta with change to muffler, makes quite a big difference.

So far, I will say go for giulietta if you are looking for something to trash, with good handling and potential for power modification. The multiair engine is quite well done! The TCT is not bad, but some fine tuning to it will make the stallion wonderful!

So far, I have managed to start the car every morning and less worried compared to my previous stallions from fiat or alfa

Have fun!!

Neutral Newbie

Hi guys!

I'm new to Alfa too and would be great if anyone could offer some advice as to where I can find aftermarket parts like lowering springs+shock absorbers, rims etc for the giulietta? Seems very difficult to find. Does everyone buy online from www.shop4parts.co.uk or EbSpare and ship it to Singapore?

Thanks in advance!

"managed to start the car every morning"

Are you serious ?

Need to manage the start and stop of the engine like a process ?

My former RX7 'suka suka' decide to start or not start for no apparent reason. When it wouldn't start I would first attempt to de-flood it. If that fail, I would knock the battery and components with a mallet that I always carry in my car. Usually work, nothing wrong with the car.

My old Mit Galant was the opposite. After I removed the key, the engine continues to run. I knock the battery with the mallet and it stop.

Do I need to keep a mallet for a Giulietta ?
