Hp93868686 Clutched April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 For me , my company is paying for my car allowance which is enough to cover mthly overall... Been working for nearly five years and it will be fully paid up then after I will get to save the $ every month...
Hermitage 1st Gear April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 Why don't you go for a 2nd hand car instead of a new one? Exactly! That's what I'd do, or have been doing ever since I started driving! There are cars out there, interesting examples at that, which won't break the bank. In other words, there's a car for every budget, so this COE thing is nonsense! If I wanted a car but couldn't afford a new one because of the COE, why, I'd simply look for an interesting 2nd hand one and enjoy driving sans the high depreciation associated with new car ownership! Anyway, to each his own. As long as you're happy can already

Cos it made u buy a 2nd hand car which is not an addition to the car population. So COE is not nonsense in your case.

So COE is not nonsense in your case. Hmmm...I don't see it that way 'cos I'm still happily driving around COE will only help to reduce the number of new cars on the road, so with a very high COE figure, the car population is not gonna decrease, what's gonna happen is that we'll see more old cars on the road. Which to me, is a good thing 'cos I like old cars! Singaporeans change cars way to often anyway, our motoring heritage is lost in this way! No doubt our streets are filled with nice, shiny new cars, but they're all souless, lacking in character. We do have a small population of classics, who fortunately are owned by enthusiasts commited to lifetime ownershp of their rides! With the hike in COEs, I hope to see more such vehices in the future! Saycheese78 Clutched April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 Car ownership cost a mth. $1200 -$1500 for small car. If COE increase by $20k, car maintenance increase by $2k/year or $180/mth. 10-15% increase in maintenance cost. Biggest fallacy in car ownership in Singapore is that we often only see the car cost and not the entire car ownership cost. sigh. I do agree that $100+ a mth is important, thats why i try not to drive to work (cost $400+)
