Weezersg 3rd Gear March 29, 2010 Share March 29, 2010 I am still on stock tyre after 2.5 years and mileage is only 28k. The thread is still good. How long before I need to change tyre? Can last for 5 years? ↡ Advertisement
Gobbler Clutched March 29, 2010 Share March 29, 2010 5 years fm date of manufacturing
Chiangauto Clutched April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 although low usage, but suggest you to change after 3 year plus as tyre life can only last for 3 years plus.you must check on tyre condition as well.
Hp93868686 Clutched April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 Mine already 3yrs , done 90K km . Still left about 30% tread
DMC Neutral Newbie April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 (edited) preferably 3-5 yrs. Also depends on the condition. I had mine used for 3 years and at least 20% tread left. But found that it is abit harden so changed for safety reasons. Edited April 2, 2010 by DMC
Silver_blade Turbocharged April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 For me, it's 2yrs or 40,000km
Weesern Clutched April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 i also low mileage... but tyre start leaking and canot find the leak... so change... if urs is ok, 3 to 5 years from the manufacture date should be ok... on avg, we should be able to buy new tyres tat are 6 mths old. so u only need to change tyres roughly 4 years later provided there are still thread and compound still ok
Jchuacl Clutched April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 Are you proud that you can use your tyres for such a long mileage? I've mentioned several times, mileage/thread are just 2 of the factors to consider. You still need to consider the traction in the wet/dry, any damage to the tyre etc. Mine already 3yrs , done 90K km . Still left about 30% tread
Weewee1976 3rd Gear April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 Rule of the thumb should be either 2 years or 40k mileage, whichever comes first. Tyres harden easily in Singapore's climate. You can save on other things, but not tyres and brakes. Remember, tyres are the only things from your car that are in constant contact with the road. atlantis Neutral Newbie April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 I suggest changing at 3 years, or max 4 years or when the tire thread has worn thin. I last changed mine at 4 years but that is based on relatively modest driving style and vey much on Singapore road.
Ithunk 1st Gear April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 (edited) change when the thread is thin....one way to lose yr tyres in a day is to go multiple laps around a circuit...boy it will wear like no ones business....i think 60 laps of to the limit driving is enough man....and yr tyres turn into slicks drive safe Edited April 4, 2010 by Ithunk
Davidklt Supercharged April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 What is the consequences of hardened tyres? Can advise? Rule of the thumb should be either 2 years or 40k mileage, whichever comes first. Kyojin 1st Gear April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 What is the consequences of hardened tyres? Can advise? harden = prone to cracking. best to change 4 years AFTER MANUFACTURE DATE. not 4 years after you bought the car/tyres. you can find the date easily on the sidewall... should look like 5009 which means made in 50th week of 09. or 60k km, whichever comes first these are assuming the tyres have worn down evenly (ie rotation done regularly and air pressure maintained religiously). Ladykillerz 4th Gear April 4, 2010 Share April 4, 2010 many will say, follow the rule-of-thumb -> 3 to 5 years from the date of manufactured. however, i do ride with stock tyres that remain >60% tread after 3.5years. most importantly, whether do you feel safe? singapore road is relatively well maintained. so, if you are a safe driver, you can stick with it or just change it. your driving techniques play an important role.~

Ghostami 2nd Gear April 5, 2010 Share April 5, 2010 I also agree its either 2 years or 40000km.. whichever comes first. I don't wanna risk having hard tyres, you just need one unlucky corner or e-brake or whatever to send you a big hole in your pocket, or worst... You can save on anything but not tyres and brakes, I believe the cost of the car outweights the cost of the tyres. If that few hundred of dollars is so hard to be used for new tyres, I don't think you should drive.
