Quantum 5th Gear March 26, 2010 Share March 26, 2010 (edited) although current CAT A COE shooted up to 28K+, and all car dealers increased price by abt 10k, I visited a few car showrooms, found latio, sylphy, altis, lancer, city and korean cars all abt 80k, but the dealers would like to give COE rebate at abt 30k, plus attractive in house discount 3k+, so if next COE only 15k, you can get 18k+ price down, which means around 60k can get latio, sylphy, city, altis and korean cars etc, , it's almost same as previous low COE price, it's quite possible, coz CAT A buyers are COE sensitive consumers, next round CAT A surely drop even if govt shrink COE quota again it's last chance to buy cheap cars in future 5 years, hurry up! forget abt CAT B, CAT B surely break 40k, next round unless you'ar rich man, 40k only is chicken face in your $200k+ car price Edited March 26, 2010 by Quantum ↡ Advertisement

Shull Turbocharged March 26, 2010 Share March 26, 2010 (edited) dont think CAT A will drop..cos i am pretty sure the big players still have alot of backlog of CAT A cars sold during the CNY period to clear..my guess is price will only stabilise 2nd bidding of May or 1st bidding of June.. But we human is emotional. Assume I go sign up Sylphy at $80k with COE rebate $30k. Coming COE bidding day, what do I expect TCM to bid for me? $15k or $30k? If TCM bid $15k, I will come to MCF to start scolding TCM for not wanting to sell me the Sylphy. Agree? But if TCM bid $30k, good. I have a good chance of getting the Sylphy. But if everybody also bit $30k, then COE will end at $30k. Then I LL must pay $80k for the Sylphy. The risk is too high for the gamble.

AndrewLee72 6th Gear March 27, 2010 Share March 27, 2010 May I ask : why cant all of them bid 10k for cat a so that all AD will be happy! All customers happy! Cos AD get to sell the cars and customers get to drive new car? I mean common - who goes in to bid COE? Certainly not the toilet cleaner at the hawker centre rite? Eg : Dave / Tom / Vincent blah blah blah just click the mouse on bidding day - 10k for Cat A - full stop.... Result : Everybody happy rite? So technically speaking - can we control the price of the COE? I mean use buttock to think one will also know - as an AD - I wanna sell my new batch of cars - eg : Vios / Forte. Yes? Ok so this week end I ad : 50k for this car say Vios / Forte? Do you think the crowd will come in? Case 2 : this week end - I ad 61k for Vios /Forte? Which would the AD prefer? hmmmmmm - last but not least - who are the ones goin g in to bid for COE? hmmmmmmm

People are selfish with the "As long as I get my car, who cares about others" mentality. If all agree to bid $10k, you can be sure some sneaky ones will bid $10,001 and all hell breaks loose again with bidding war. C'est la vie.

Which would the AD prefer? hmmmmmm - last but not least - who are the ones goin g in to bid for COE? hmmmmmmm Ok. Good question. Assume there are 5 good friends, Dave, Tom, Vincent, Joe and Ben. They all agreed to bid $10k. Problem. There is only 4 COEs available, meaning 1 of them will not get the COE. So, Dave quietly bid $11k and Tom $12k. Vincent, Joe and Ben break their promise and bit $15k. So, when the result is out, Dave loss and the COE price is $12k. This is assuming it is a close bidding where Dave is unaware he has been betray by his buddies. Open bidding is fairer. Dave will get to know his buddies are bidding higher. In order not to lose out, he up his bid to $16k. Then, all others also adjust their bid higher... until Joe says, $40k is ridiculous and I have no money. I quit. Then the other 4 buddies, suck thumb because they are now loaded with $30k extra debt. Someone in this forum has quoted this before. "We are the victim of our own stupidity." The govt. only reduce the COE quota. We are the one drives up the price.

If 1000 ppl agree to bid 10k for 500 COE, than may I ask who will get the COE? Than 1 smart alec think I better bid higher at 11k so can conform get, the other Tom also think better bid 12k to outsmart the rest. That's why you have the high COE price la. AndrewLee72 6th Gear March 27, 2010 Share March 27, 2010 Correct!!!! That is why - all the AD must team up and set the line straight. Ok I know they all wanna sell the car to the customer faster - so one may try to outbid the other AD. Yes - a fact. So lets work backwards shall we - assume all buyers are on first sign first get car basis!!! Provided bank loan - approved. Can this work?
