Blackseal 1st Gear March 19, 2010 Share March 19, 2010 The next-generation Volkswagen Beetle concept will be introduced at the Los Angeles auto show in November, according to Autocar. Citing unidentified sources, the magazine claims the car will get a renewed look, and should feature more inspired engine choices as it is prepped for a 2011 market release. A 2.0-liter engine producing 210 bhp (213 PS, 157 kW) could be seen on the car, more powerful than any engine currently sold on the vehicle. Also expected are 1.4-liter 160 bhp (162 PS, 119 kW) and 1.2-liter 105 bhp (106 PS, 78 kW) petrol engines. Diesel offerings could include 2.0-liter 140 bhp (142 PS, 104 kW) and 1.6-liter 105 bhp (106 PS, 78 kW) units. Customers in the US might get the chance to purchase the car with a five-cylinder 2.5-liter model cranking out 170 bhp (172 PS, 127 kW). The company is also toying with the idea of producing a hybrid version of the car. Autocar says the vehicle will have a wider stance and longer wheelbase as it will be produced at the same plant, and on the same architecture, as the VW Jetta. The Beetle is expected to get a MacPherson strut front, torsion beam rear suspension, though a multi-link rear is also possible. Look for exterior changes to be inspired by the 2005 Volkswagen Ragster concept. ↡ Advertisement
Astrid 4th Gear March 20, 2010 Share March 20, 2010 If it is (again) gonna be made in Brazil or Mexico, it will (again), not likely to be popular. Especially if the reliability and quality of fit is (still) going to be below average and mediocre. VW will have to learn to put back reliability into the cars that they produce, like those in the previous millenium. Styling and power only ain't gonna be enough. Or they manage to find out how Honda squeeze 200+ bhp from the K20A engine? well, no matter what, the figures looks damn good.. Car performance is not all about BHP. Torque is more important especially for our city driving with start/stop traffic. Honda K20A engine is good but you need more than 5k rpm to get all the torque and BHP, are you going push your engine above 5k rpm between every traffic light? While VW turbo engine can get >200Nm of torque at just 2000rpm.

CharlieCrocker Neutral Newbie April 2, 2010 Share April 2, 2010 icons only remain if the people want them and this is one which no body wants except for you girlies out there who think they are driving a true icon sometimes simple is the best answer - wider arches and stop feeding it with steroids larger headlights and rear lights being oval rather than round - inspiration is look at the porsche 911 that never grew and kept a lot of the original characteristics "wise man once said when you reach the last page close the book"
