MadDog70 2nd Gear March 21, 2010 Share March 21, 2010 So must buy Skoda Superb.
Echelon 3rd Gear March 22, 2010 Share March 22, 2010 Skoda's are well built cars, with an exceptional engine, DSG, and feature rich. It's a hidden gem. Btw the other day some friends sat at the rear seat as I have a kids chair infront and they comment how luxuriously spacious it was at the back. The ride was firm(I changed the shocks to the firmer ones) quiet and comfortable, in the night the rear doors internal handles had a Led courtesy light which impressed them nonetheless. :) Makes me happy that they made comments. And when I said, the brand is new, they said no the brand has been around for a long time, (to my surprise) but said they did not know they built such great cars! Way to go Skoda, HA - need more advertising! Keep going man!
Hockers 1st Gear March 22, 2010 Share March 22, 2010 Agree that HA needs to keep pushing the brand and to dispell the myths. The Superb is really good value, I feel, if the price can be kept on par with, say, the Camry, as that is the "default" car that most people go for when looking for a non-German family saloon. When I checked last week, I was surprised that the 2.0 Camry was priced at 103k - quite expensive for a Thai assembled car, and you can feel from the doors, panels, etc. that it is no way as solid as the Superb. Having said that, the Superb Elegance was going for 115k, so that is still quite a premium and given the historical baggage that the Skoda badge comes with, HA may want to relook at the pricing carefully. Speeddemon Neutral Newbie March 23, 2010 Share March 23, 2010 (edited) Think its fairer to compare the Camry with the Ambition model.....I don't think the Camry comes with touchscreen DVD player with integrated GPS, parallel assisted parking, 18" rims, GSM bluetooth, bi-xenon and adaptive lights, 7 spd DSG etc etc Seriously.....the only thing the Camry really has going for it is the 5 yr warranty given by Borneo.... Kahlid Neutral Newbie March 23, 2010 Share March 23, 2010 yep, comparing to Ambition, the difference with Camry is no longer significant. That might help to push more sales.
Hockers 1st Gear March 23, 2010 Share March 23, 2010 Well, hope so. So far, I have had to endure incredulous looks when I tell people that I have just plopped down more than 100k for a Skoda! Can't wait to finally take delivery and prove their preconceptions wrong!

Nostalgia 4th Gear March 23, 2010 Share March 23, 2010 (I changed the shocks to the firmer ones) What did you change to and how much did they cost you? Was there an improvement in going over humps as well?
Echelon 3rd Gear March 23, 2010 Share March 23, 2010 (edited) What did you change to and how much did they cost you? Was there an improvement in going over humps as well? All Skodas uses SACHS shock absorber.(correct me if I am wrong) My Skoda Superb 1 is base on SACHS Super Touring absorbers which was a little too soft for me, but great on bumps and humps, more a magic carpet drive, but when in spirited corners, you might feel a little seasick feel to it for me. (My wife had no issues) I changed mine to SACHS Advantage, firmer ride and for me taking corners with confidence. I used to lower the springs to 1 finger, but in Singapore roads, it was too low, cannot park properly in carparks, humps hit bottom of car...etc. I changed the springs back to 3-4 fingers....much better. Anyways SACHS Advantage is good. (prices varies, but it is between 850-1000 per set of 4) Quoted: SACHS Advantage is the alternative for the highest demands in all driving situations. Individually adapted to each vehicle for that decisive plus in handling and driving stability. Advantage combines sportiness with comfort. In the Advantage series, you will only find single and twin tube gas pressure shock absorbers. Special techniques are employed wherever they can lead to a noticeable improvement to driving performance. An example of this is groove technology, which helps to adapt the absorption power to the certain vehicles. Or state-of-the-art valve technology which permits a special coordination of digressive characteristics. Advanced technology precisely and individually tailor made to suit each vehicle type, axle construction and suspension design. In this way, Advantage convinces above all by its high safety reserves and optimum road-holding. Btw, if I am not wrong, SACHS is OEM and used in BMWs, AUDIs, VWs, SEAT....etc. They are basically cheap and good. No brainer. http://www.zf.com/brands/content/en/sachs/.../advantage.html Edited March 23, 2010 by Echelon
