My Humble COE Ride!!

I see you're looking at the same Sera as I am. [grin]

It uses a high compression variant of the Starlet's engine. There's a thread on the Sera that I dug up a couple of days ago, but it seems that nobody else here knows much about that car.

Btw I heard there are only 2 Seras in Singapore. If so, that advertised one is the better-looking one even though I'm not a fan of the smoked lights. I saw a gold Sera around suntec recently and it didn't look that well taken care of...

is toyota sera a lemon car? <_<

it sure looks cool to me, just as said, don't know the engine inside but with such doors, it sure catches a lot of attention. if i were to get it, i probably give it a new coating of paint, metallic red or black.

My insurance is around 1.1K and its 3rd party. Road tax is 1.8K a year.

As for old COE cars, depreciation is high (my COE expiring in 2012) and maintenance is higher as well. Thus only buy if you like the car very much. For my case, I wanted to get a GT4 for a very long time already.

insurance is not expensive but road tax is, which class it fall under?

got turbo or sport car class?

mind me asking about old COE cars, after renewal of 10yrs, lets say at 20k as of recently.

1 year, you only depreciate 2k

as for the maintenance portion, yes. gonna be steep but i think worth it.

after all, you are driving a class of your own. [thumbsup]

Also hope by 2012, coe will not be 40 - 50k if not prepared to pay high price to continue keeping this car.

really?? haha, small world.

starlet's engine, i wonder if it has a snail inside?

well, i like it due to some reason:

- cheap

- cool doors

- small car with 2 seater, if required, still got another 2 more at rear. don't like to ferry people around except my gf.

- still feel young and wanted that kind of sporty image. [laugh]

Hi Everyone! I am a newbie in this forum. Finally gotten my first ride not long ago. Its a COE car thats almost 20yrs old. fulfilling my 20r old dream!

*thats not my house* Thats the previous owner's house. I am just a poor peasant living in an old HDB flat.

WOW!! Congrats bro! Looks to be in good stock condition too! For a GT4, that's rarer tha rare.

Keep it well, drive responsibly and maintain it on a regular basis. Hope it gives you many more years of driving pleasure!

Btw...we should meet up sometime. A group of us who own nostalgic JDM cars regularly meet up to TCSS [laugh] There are a few 70s Celicas, FC & FD rx-7s, Charade GTti, EF Civic, AE86, Evo 3 etc... You'd be a welcome addition with your GT4!!

But this group of peple are not active in MCF. Perhaps we should do an MCF based meet-up with bro Requiem and the rest of the retro car owners here? Anyone interested?? [wave]

the starlet club pple do haf meet ups once in awhile maybe can org one wif them?

Yeah, that'll be nice! But perhaps we should organise one ourselves, one where the owners all intend to keep their rides, where passion for classic/retro cars are the norm, not the exception [pirate]

And since there seems to be some interest already, why not start the ball rolling?? Just sending out feelers here... How does the afternoon of Saturday 26th March 2010 sound to you guys? 3pm, Leisuredrome at Kallang?

26th? Unfortunately my car is still in the workshop. No car to meet up... :(
