MANAMA, March 14 (Reuters) - Fernando Alonso won the season-opening Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix and led a Ferrari one-two in a dream debut with the Italian glamour team on Sunday.

In a strength-sapping race led for 34 of the 49 laps by Germany

Just came back from the Mercedes-organised viewing. Very boring GP, just a parade lap, made even worse this season because of starting race with full fuel load (makes for no heroic maneuvers at the start) and no refueling during the race (which minimises pit strategy).

Only moderately interesting thing was Vettel's car going bye-bye slowly, which led to the result.

And MS is obviously not in the strongest car - and even then, he still finished behind his teammate. Some comeback.

yeah....but Fernando Alonso is really pro...overtaking massa in the first corner.....hes that good....and towards the end setting lap records toward the end of the race...

and yeah vettel had a problem....i suspect alonso wasnt attacking....only attacking towards the end of the race...but the again it fell in his favour.....and in motor racing you make your own luck

and great race....and schumacher had a very good final race position....

also the lotus team had a good and well deserved finish....ahead of virgin and HRT

and this season is very interesting....drivers will have to conserve fuel and baby their tyres and brakes.....

and also drivers driving on the clean side of the road to avoid dirty side of the road....so yeah its interesting...

and you can really see the difference between a pro and a rookie this season....with the exception of hamilton...as there are a few rookie and paying drivers such as vitaly petrov karun and such....

Yes, that's true, that's why I've always been a big fan of Alonso. You should see the way some of the Ferraristi changed their tune about Alonso when he joined their side. They used to call him two-faced. Talk about irony. [laugh]

Hmm. Don't know if I would consider it a great race. For me, that has to have lots of incidents, on-track passing and a nail-biting finish.

And Schumi finished behind his teammate. The most telling race is the one between teammates, so, no, MS didn't have a fantastic race.

Speaking of Virgin, I hope Richard Branson has been humbled after his first outing. He sure did talk a lot for a complete newcomer (like questioning the need for wind-tunnel testing, etc.). [rolleyes]

(edited)

no refuelling for all circuits....only change of tyre...to hard or soft tyres...

hard is compound tyre...soft is option tyre....

option tyres gives more grip.....and of course will not last as long as a compound tyre

hard tyres....will last longer during the race....so there is no shredding....

its really interesting to watch Formula 1...becos some of these racing talent is jus in born....if u looked at the way schumacher drove....his driving is always as precise as ever.....and of course u really can see the difference between the pros and rookies....

but then again F1 is not as interesting as soccer...however i like both

but to see an F1 race real life is an experience....

Neutral Newbie

I have watched almost all F1 races on tv since 1998 Canada race, I think this is the most boring one, sad man....... I got to read newspaper to keep me awake. With no refueling, most of the strategy is gone, and the speed is so slow. When it comes to Singapore, sure exceed the two hours limit.

for a guy who hasn't raced in 3 years, to come back with minimal testing and be just behind a teammate who's one of the best drivers in F1, it def speaks volumes of his talent. Watch Schumi rise again after a few races.

think the reasons for refueling ban was due to safety and also the 'green' part. in any case, there's still some strategy involve such as tyre conservation but seems like most going for one stopper.
