Beware 2nd hand dealers charging gst on the final price.

I myself just experienced it recently. After trying hard to bargain off the asking price, they said the company is a gst reg company hence need to charge me on gst.

Of coz I walked away from the deal and I called iras to report on the company.

The followng is a repeat of my post, in respond to your same post, in another thread:

Thank you for highlighting this component (GST charge) which can make a significant difference between the original and final price. Therefore, it would be good for potential buyers to 1st check with the company if they will charge GST even before considering to view their cars unless one is prepared to pay for it.

Btw, if they are GST registered company, it is legal for them to charge although some would have zero rated GST i.e. included in the intended sales price.

Therefore, unless they are not a GST registered company, reporting to IRAS will not make any difference.

dont bother.

just go scout for direct owner ads and buy the car urself.

getting a loan and insurance is very easy and fast....so is transferring of ownership at LTA (less than 30min including waiting time)

To me, that is a wise move. I would have done the same.

One way to enjoy the peace of mind and not having to grapple with unscrupulous dealers.

Have a nice day! [wave]

(edited)

Bought a Groupon voucher $48 @ Stillone international racing (10b jln ampas) for my friend to go there for an oil change. My friend had to pay $100 for spark plugs and another $100 for the rear brake pads. :(

they will usually be GST registered i guess? revenue above $1m will need to be GST-registered with the IRAS. selling one car --- $80k. sell 12-13 cars, most prob will hit the $1m mark already... isn't it?
