Gingerdip 1st Gear November 22, 2010 Share November 22, 2010 Getting worried, I just bought a 2nd hand car from a dealer at west coast, Jan 2009 car with 35000 mileage, this is reasonable, but how do I know if this has not been tweaked? Dealer claims previous 1 owner, lady had serviced regularly at PI, which is the orginal importer of the car. Its a copen btw. How can I check the Odo is not tweaked? Car till under warrenty till jan 2012 I also did not send for STA check before buying, feeling rather silly now
Shanhz 3rd Gear November 22, 2010 Share November 22, 2010 if it's PI car, quite unlikely you will ever find out. experienced mechanic can tell. i would say 80% chance it has been tweaked.

DreamCar2Nightmare Neutral Newbie November 22, 2010 Share November 22, 2010 Part 1 of my nightmare story... This post in on request of Koh from Horizon Motoring after he pushed the blame of everything to the air. Avoid Horizon Motoring (Commonwealth Car Mall) and Mayfair Motoring Tag complain feedback poor service blacklist I bought a 2nd hand 2007 VW New Beetle from Koh (Horizon Motoring) on 1 Oct 2010. Before that during the test drive, I complained about the brakes. Other than that there was the usual dents and scratches on the car. He told me that the car was under 3 years warranty by VW and not to worry. I told him to settle the brakes for me first before I made the purchase. However, he said before he can go for the STA check (which is bogus of course) and to send the car to VW for me he need to settle the deposit first. So of course I obliged. Later he told me that STA check got an A (corruption? SLA STA?) and that VW appt is 3 weeks later. He said that they do not give dealers privileges. Again he assured me that the car is under VW warranty and I can always go back to settle the brakes. Thus I went ahead with the paperwork. After sending the car to VW, I found out that cars sold in before 2008 only has a 2 years warranty as VW took back the AD on 1 Jan 2008. So I called him and told him. Before this brake issues, there was already alot of problems pertaining to the car. And this doesn't help much.Koh's explanation was the seller told him that it was 3 years warranty so they told me it was 3 years warranty. Brilliant. So after a heated argument, he said over the phone that he will pay whatever it takes to settle the brakes and close my case even it means deducting his comission. So I went to his recommended workshop to do the check. After checking, the technician told me that Koh doesn't want to pay for the brakes and told me to settle with him. After another heated argument, he said that he was not willingly to take responsibility on the brakes and warranty issues. He told me that his commission was already deducted for my car due to another issue. So I'm stuck with a car with many issues and no warranty. Full of empty promises and lying straight to their teeth. In summary I would say all 2nd hand car dealers are like that. I would really pin point on the sales person normally but in this case I feel that it is the lack of support by the boss. Though Koh did his part by 'asking me down to settle with him'. He's kinda of big size so I'm sure to lose. I had a bad experience with Mayfair Motoring sometime in 2007 but I did not buy from them. Horizon Motoring came out of Mayfair Motoring which was previously at Commonwealth Car Mall. Though the prices of 2nd car is still booming, for the savings you get, this is what you get. I will never ever buy from a 2nd hand car dealer again or trust one. The above is really a summary. The issue has been outstanding for more than a month and it is really pushing my blood pressure to its limit. All the ding dong here and there...I don't even know where to start on my second part which is really the killer on my Dream Car...

Kwinsee Neutral Newbie November 22, 2010 Share November 22, 2010 One more car dealer to be blacklist.... Citicar at West Coast car mart I want to share with you all the bad experience that I had with a used car dealer at West Coast car mart. The used car company name is Citicar. I paid a deposit and was told that the mileage of the car is 105K for a 5 year old car. Average of about 20k plus mileage which is quite normal for average driver. Bliss with good luck, I was told by my friends to check the mileage of the car with the authorized service centre. After calling, I was shocked to hear that the last mileage captured by the authorized service center was 148K. So why the car mileage got shorter??? I think the answer is very obvious!!! In the end, without any doubt, they give me the option to void my purchase and I got my deposit back. The car is repost for sales in Sgcarmart again. So to all 2nd hand buyer out there, do be beware of such used car dealer and always check the car mileage. By lengthening of the lifespan of the car is very dangerous and the buyer could result in accident if service is not done properly just wondering.. how to check the mileage with the autorized service center, just make phone call will do?? what information must be provided? sorry i am newbie here..
