Kb27 Supersonic March 28, 2010 Share March 28, 2010 I buy my parts from Song Yi. Costs around $190 which includes the timing belt package and water pump. Then I bring it over to JB and pay labour for rm100.

Then I bring it over to JB and pay labour for rm100. =============== I got all the required parts for a complete timing belt package. parts about $400 & my labour in SG abt $100 plus. I prefer not to get it done in Jb cos sometimes I see the way they work, I get worried. Not worth the risk for something as important as timing belt. Your parts at $190 is just timing belt, tensioner & water pump & seal issit? Mine is incl all the bearings, tensioner, water-pump, seals, coolant & the other AC belt. I also got my parts from Song Yi. Edited March 28, 2010 by Pisces69

I also got my parts from Song Yi. Mine is for Getz and it includes, timing belt, tensioner, idler, oil seals, water pump, 3 accessory belts. No coolant. I bought my own elsewhere. I agree about the risks. That's why I stand besides the mech and watch him worked for 3 hrs, except for a half-hour quick lunch I got away.

2BDriver Hypersonic March 30, 2010 Share March 30, 2010 What happen if the Malaysia Custom Officer sees your Brand New Car Part's ? Do they Tax you for importation ?
Kb27 Supersonic March 31, 2010 Share March 31, 2010 They will obviously give you trouble. So tear out all the packaging and scatter the parts in the car, glove compartment, boot, under the car seat. Another thing you could do is to buy the parts in JB. Look for Hyundai/Kia stockists and it seemed the price is quite reasonable, might even be cheaper than Song Yi. I saw a shop address at Taman Johor Jaya (Rosmerah), but I haven't check them out yet.

2BDriver Hypersonic April 14, 2010 Share April 14, 2010 Today, I bought my 2006 Optra Estate Timing Belt Package at Song Yi @S$300+7%GST=S$321. Really expensive for the original Cheverolet Spare Parts purchase, my heart pains and given without choices in estimating still having other spare parts to purchase again such as, tensional/engine oil & filter/spark plugs/coolant. I called my JB mechanic for quotation, and were delighted : wub: to hear that he is charging me Labour works @ RM250 for: Timing Belt Replacements and General Servicing. Labour Works includes: Timing belt/Timing bearing/Idler bearing/Alternator Belt/water pump/water pump O-ring/Camshaft Oil Seal/Oil Pump oil seal/Tensioner/engine oil/engine oil filter/spark plugs/coolant. Thanks for MCF bro's recommented to me earlier for using local workshop, but I've decided to travel up JB for some repairng savings. I'll up-date JB mechanic service standards, as well as my rite performance soonest possible...............
Ghostami 2nd Gear April 14, 2010 Share April 14, 2010 My car will be 5 years old by the end of this year. Currently have clocked 120kkm, so far so good, other than normal servicing and changing of timing belts not much problem with a comfortable fc. How is his workmanship & charges & location of shop? maybe if he is good, I might try & see how. Last few times I or my frens tried those JB mech, it was a big disappointment. Prices were jacked up with many add-ons after job done & was found the parts although had the original parts stickers & logo on packaging & parts, were of very low quality. We suspect they were imitation parts which r quite common in JB.
Ghostami 2nd Gear April 14, 2010 Share April 14, 2010 My advise is get the parts from SG , than bring in and do the servicing while keeping your eye on them. Its a tiring process but at least your parts will be placed in and not swapped..
Pisces69 6th Gear April 14, 2010 Share April 14, 2010 1.4M Kia Rio... As for spares, quite easy to find and also not very ex. ============== I drove a Korean auto car(Excel) b4 for abt 10 years till scrap & it never gave me major problems. Now I have a Optra (Korean/thai) & using >2 years without any problems. My previous COE Corona CD I drove for almost 10 years without major problems till I traded in when it was 19 years old. I guess as long as u have a good reliable & honest mech & use only good quality parts, most modern cars can last a very long time without major problems. ↡ Advertisement
