Helloworld88 2nd Gear March 1, 2010 Share March 1, 2010 I have read many of reviews on latest Bridgestone GR90, apart from high pricing, many good comments on it when comparing to GR80, and as a existing GR80 owner, why don't give it a try ? Called a few tyre shops and get this "reasonable" quote (shop owner reminds me to use this term, imho, this is cheap !) from Soh Bro, reach there but no queue (most important to me), and also being served with a cold soft drink like other competitors. Overall in terms of customer's relationship (e.g attitude towards customer), uncle Soh treats customer very well from my 45mins observation (this is my first visit), ok, let's come back to the review : Size : 215/16/60 Price : $175 each inclusive of GST Score 1 - Worse; 10 - Best Noise level : 10/10 (as expected since the rubber is still brand new, will post again when it passes 1000km mark) Handling : 9/10 Comfort : 9/10 Will monitor the performance as the tyre getting run in. ↡ Advertisement

Helloworld88 2nd Gear March 2, 2010 Author Share March 2, 2010 Copy from Wiki : Treadwear Grade Number The Treadwear Grade describes how a tire manufacturer views the wear of a given tire. In theory, this means that a tire with a 200 grade will wear twice as long as a tire with a 100 grade. However, tire manufacturers are not under any obligation to grade a tire based on the test results, except to say that they can not overstate the grade. This is enforced by NHTSA requiring documentation to justify any assignment of a grade on a tire. Please note: As Course Monitoring Tires have changed, their treadwear grades have changed to numbers considerably higher than 100. As a result, it would be incorrect to say that a tire with a treadwear grade of 200 gets twice the life of the Course Monitoring Tire. Limitations Notice that the treadwear grade is a ratio and not a mileage. This is because there are a lot of factors that determine treadwear rates and most of them are a function of driving conditions and operating environment, and not the tire itself. As a result, actual tire wear will vary considerably within the same tire line. The phrase "Your mileage may vary" applies here. The assigning of UTQG grades is done solely by the tire manufacturer. In many cases, this has resulted in the UTQG grading system to be more of a marketing tool than was originally intended. It is legal and permissible for a tire manufacturer to give a particular tire line a lower treadwear grade. For example: If the highest treadwear grade in a manufacturer's line up is 600, then a tire line with a lower treadwear test result might receive a grade of 400, instead of the 480 it could possibly receive. Also, it is common for tires whose treadwear grade is of little commercial value, such as "DOT" racing tires, to be assigned extremely low values - sometimes even zero. AhDU Neutral Newbie March 2, 2010 Share March 2, 2010 Thanks Bro for sharing. Also eyeing this GR90, hope it last longer for the premium price paid. Using XM1 at the moment which treadwear indicated as 320.
Helloworld88 2nd Gear March 2, 2010 Author Share March 2, 2010 (edited) How long have they been running ? and how fast are the treads being worn out ? My last GR80 covered 61,000km in 2.5years (my daily driving pattern is 80% Highway, 20% Urban). Edited March 2, 2010 by Helloworld88

AhDU Neutral Newbie March 2, 2010 Share March 2, 2010 Previously used ES501, quiet but wear fast and not so gripy on wet road, took something like 50k km in 2 years plus, 60% highway 40% urban. One pair changed to XM1, going to change another pair, thus considering this. XM1 is quiet but thought of soft sidewall may limit performance.
