Blackseal 1st Gear March 1, 2010 Share March 1, 2010 TAICHUNG, Taiwan - A Toyota collided with a pillar in front of a convenience store in central Taiwan Saturday as the driver was parking the car, local reports said yesterday. According to the driver, a 36-year-old woman, she was putting the car into park when her four-year-old Toyota Wish lurched forward and hit the store in Taichung County. "The car had stopped. But when I was shifting gears, it lurched forward on its own and the brakes did not work," she said. No casualties were reported, but the driver's mother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat when the incident occurred was taken to a hospital complaining of chest pains, the reports said. A Toyota technician who rushed to the scene to check the problem said there would be an investigation into the case, which came after Toyota recalled some 8.5 million vehicles worldwide since October last year due to problems with the accelerator pedal and braking system. Toyotas sold in Taiwan use a different brand of accelerator pedal than the one that has been causing problems elsewhere. ↡ Advertisement

Kangadrool Supersonic March 1, 2010 Share March 1, 2010 (edited) Even stepping hard on the brake while shifting the auto gear will cause the car to jerk a bit. Think probably she didn't step or step a bit niah or mis-step (on the gas pedal instead). Correct procedure is to engage the Parking brake first, step on foot brake and then shift the gear lever. Most B&B Jap cars have weak brake though. Need to step really hard. Otherwise, sure jerk lurched one. Edited March 1, 2010 by Kangadrool

Fedup-camry Neutral Newbie March 2, 2010 Share March 2, 2010 TOYOTA IS JUST NOT CREDIBLE ANY MORE March 2, 2010 Data Shows Camrys Not Recalled Also Had Problems By BILL VLASIC, HIROKO TABUCHI and JO CRAVEN McGINTY This article was reported by Bill Vlasic, Hiroko Tabuchi and Jo Craven McGinty and written by Mr. Vlasic. Toyota has recalled six million cars in the United States over concerns about sudden acceleration. But an analysis of government documents shows that many Toyota Camrys built before 2007, which were not subject to recalls, have been linked to a comparable number of speed-control problems as recalled Camrys. While owners of all makes of vehicles have filed complaints with the government about speed control problems, the analysis
