Attended a cny function at a bungalow in holland area.. easily above 9000sqft.. The following was what I encountered in a few hours there. Rough count easily 100 guests.. Anyone can roughly estimate?

1. Lion dance troupe

2. Valet parking (4 valets)

3. Small pots of 'lucky bamboo' as door gifts

4. A lady playing gu zheng (traditional chinese musical instrument) in the garden - she left 9pm.. guessed she started 6pm

5. Live band took over after the gu zheng lady left

6. Easily seen 10 waiters/waitresses or even more

7. Few chefs at different food counters (buffet style)

8. 2 gambling tables with 'professional dealers' for blackjack and big-small

9. Many fans at different corners of the garden

10. A fortune teller at a corner to let guests interested to have their fortunes told

There could be many i missed out.. Wonder if the host would give $$$ to charity besides lavishing..

1. Lion dance troupe ($2,000+ if 2 hours)

2. Valet parking (4 valets) (~$100/pax so about $400)

3. Small pots of 'lucky bamboo' as door gifts ($5~$20 depending on size)

4. A lady playing gu zheng (traditional chinese musical instrument) in the garden - she left 9pm.. guessed she started 6pm (~$500)

5. Live band took over after the gu zheng lady left ($800 or more depending on size, repute and sound system)

6. Easily seen 10 waiters/waitresses or even more ($80/pax so about $800)

7. Few chefs at different food counters (buffet style) (how many? Wat type of food? Appox $40/head so about $4k)

8. 2 gambling tables with 'professional dealers' for blackjack and big-small ($200/table)

9. Many fans at different corners of the garden (What type of fans? $20~$300/fan)

10. A fortune teller at a corner to let guests interested to have their fortunes told (~$500 depending on repute of the fortune teller)

All in for about 100 guests it easily works out to be about $100~$300/head for an event like this. I am sure they gave a little ang pow in the kum your received back correct? Ewat Park?

I have a few friends staying there, was at another event probably because it was meant for friends only. I think I did not see any of their company guys around.

There they are all rich with old money, they are also quite careful with money. Alot of the folks there are very traditional in mentality, my friend staying there serves tea to his parents on their birthdays and CNY first thing in the morning of the first day. That is the reason for the big celebrations and expenditure during CNY. The traditional mentality is to make a big celebration during CNY and have everyone over so all can share in the luck, it is not meant as a show off, it is more to so the people coming will enjoy the luck too.

His land is quite huge, around 41.

i went i saw and immediately think that it's really showoff initially.. but yeah big boss is quite the traditional chinese type.. to see the effort on such a function even more proves he values cny and the traditions.. i was amazed by scale and was thinking how much actually was involved.. think if i hv the money i might do that as well.. maybe a smaller scale one..

Supersonic

Show off? WTH? Do you think someone that rich needs to show off with a "cheap" party like that? The people here claiming that he was a showoff need to learn what life is really about.
