Bro, first thing - DVDs are not recorded at 1080p, their resolution is around 500+p or 700+p, forgot the exact specs.

Second, HDMI upscaling does almost nothing. The resolution is upsized, but the detail is not enhanced. Bottomline, upscale or no upscale you can't see much difference.

If u are using HDMI and your DVD is not capable of upscaling then your TV takes over and upscales the image to 720p or 1080i/p. Then your TV's digital processor makes a difference.

My cheap toshiba lcd tv upscales terribly compared to a higher end samsung/panasonic/sony. [:p]

I can tell the difference because when my media player upscales a dvd image, its so much better compared to my cheapo lg dvd player. I do regret buying my dvd player

My advice is that if u watch a lot of DVDs, u may want to consider an upscaling DVD player.

Thks for the reco but want to know if any including non ori dvd will be able to be upscaled to 1080P? Bcos salesman at HN say in order to upscale to 1080p the dvd must be encoded in 1080P & non ori dvd cant be upscaled so if thats true then no point for me as view mostly non ori dvds. Thks

Either you heard erongly or the salesman bs you big time. Any DVD regardless of original or pirated is 720x480 at 30 fps. If your DVD does not have upscaler and connect to your LCD screen then the LCD internal chip will do the scaling. So its the matter of either the player got a better upscaling engine or the LCD's internal upscaler. Another advantage of having upscaler on the player is that most like you will have the maximum color gamut compared to if you connect composite or s-video to the LCD.
