it cost $98. the mech will clean the throttle body, then pump some 3M cleaning liquid into the combustion chamer.

afer that, 2 cans of additives will be poured into the fuel tank.

any of you try this engine restore service? the after results good or not?

additives have been proven a waste of money by many articles in the net

unless your car is more than 10 years and have been filling petrol from poorly filtered pump station then a major cleaning is recommended.

IMO, just maintain ur car every 10k or so, and u wld have lesser headaches.

as for me, i only clean throttle body, cos TB wld dirty liao. engine now sounds quite different after the TB cleaning.

use a better quality air filter, and redline SI-1 as my additive to clean my fuel injectors.

me dump in half bottle of redline SI-1 for initial, and then use it as a maintenace dose every month...

btw, how old is ur ride, and wat's the mileage clocked?? cos i clean my TB after 30k or so, meaning it's more of annual cleaning. if u r on hurricane filter, maybe, u wld nd to clean it more often, due to dirt and dust accumulation. btw, i juz swapped to apexi filter, previous on HKS.

For cleaning of TB, it is usually advisable to take out and clean....

By pumping or spraying the liquid to clean the TB, you are pushing the dirt or carbon stains in the TB into the engine internals.

This is what my mechanic told me. The TB in my car has been cleaned a few times due to my high mileage. Intake path all stock condition.

I am quite skeptical about additives. If they can work by means of being poured into fuel tank, OE manufacturers would have told and sold it to us.

My 2 cents worth.

TB cleaning is available in normal workshops. All mechanics should be able to do so for a fee.

what you say does make a lot of sense. but i think 3M will not come up with a product that will damage the engine.

is not 3M damage the engine... [:p]

might be user misuse and damage the engine, then push the blame to product manufacturer.... [:(]

maybe cos me in engineer cs line, cos kenna many cases whereby end user nvr read the instructions carefully, or follow instruction, and end up, damage their stuff.. then they wld call up and demand compensation, claiming that the priduct we sold them, damage their other components...

btw, me in IT line... [cool]
