Your friend is a rich and brave person, to loan out a car under his name for the sake of $850.

Respect for his bravery!

I would never do that, I rather lay-off the car or sell it away.

better rent to very close relatives or very close friends. Warn: may become enemy if things goes really wrong.

rent to stranger and it may be your friend's worst nightmare, because:

insurance not covered for rental, hence illegal. touch wood if accident, the person who rent it can just iterally run away.

traffic & parking offences your friend must take responsibility, if the person don't admit them.

I am not the one renting out. Does not matter I own a car or not.

If you really want to know.

Yes I do. Maybe you want to see it to rest your doubt?

I think we're not allow to rent a private usage car cos insurance dun cover for hiring.

If says borrow to a friend and friend help to pay for maintenance like installment, road tax, ok right? How do the insurance know whether the driver is hiring the vehicle or borrowing? Like my own vehicle is also under my father-in-law insurance cos of cheaper premium as he is older then me and have full NCD. So I langar also no insurance pay?

it's possible to rent out private cars, but on 2 conditions:

1. Renting period is on weekends and public holidays only

2. Insurance must be revised cover rental drivers

If you are authorised by the policy holder to drive, then it's ok. But the insurance reserve the rights not to pay if they find out the authorised driver is driving under unlawful rental agreement.

IC so guess my case is safe cos father-in-law is related but friend's case 50/50 I guess.

This is family second car. Cos father is of ill health recently and that take a toll on the family business so now they are in a bit of financially difficulties. Although they are still able to upkeep the car but they want to lighten the burden.

A friend rented his car out last time cos he could not sell it (price too low & no taker)....so he rented it out. Collected 6 months rental with 2 months deposit....the guy who rented his car suddenly "disappeared" and he had a hard time looking for him !! In the end....turn out that the guy who rented his vehicle was posted outstation for a year....he steady and pay back my friend for the period that he MIA...

Cannot imagine if it turns out otherwise....

Another one I know end up in a big mess...

He rent the car from a friend who was in financial problem....end up the car kenna repo....friendship turn sour...names were called and accusation thrown front and back...so many years liao both still not on talking terms.

So your friend better dun take any tom dick and harry to rent his car too....even close friend also kenna sabo.

A friend rented out his car to a director. Turns out the "director" used the car to smuggle cigs. Fortunately for my friend, he got the car back. Unfortunately, his car and bike license got kantong for 1 year.

IMHO, dont take the risk. My friend also tried to check out the background of the "director" but his PI skills not good enough or maybe he just suay.

seems a like small win-potential big loss deal.

small win=the rental fee

big loss= the car goes missing or involved in some legal stuff.
