Kelpie 2nd Gear May 6, 2010 Share May 6, 2010 was that DSG paddle gear shifting in the i45 advertisement on tv? or was i mistaken? i saw the guy tap the paddle with the "+" sign at the right of the steering wheel. DSG and Paddle shift are 2 different thingy. Paddles shift (the + and -) are increasingly popular in Jap and Kor cars these days. This should be viewed as a step or a progress to slowly eliminate manual gearbox in the future as the experts predicted. Actually good attention to detail - IMHO, using paddle shift to shift UP a gear is pointless, mostly when driving auto car I would use the + / - function to shift down...to give either better balance / more surety when coming into a corner or to put the car into its peak torque curve without waiting for the auto trans to do it (which is almost always shifting DOWN, not up)

There is a very fundamental difference between a manual transmission and an automatic transmission. This is the first question that should always be asked - after that, how a car does its shifting is the next thing. But an auto transmission that allows you to select the ratio DOES NOT equal a manual transmission. And a manual transmission that has a computer to tell the car when to shift DOES NOT equal an automatic transmission.

Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear May 9, 2010 Share May 9, 2010 i cannot stomach the i45 styling, but am waiting to see the European version of the Sonata replacement.... apparently there'll be two models for the Sonata, one for European market, and the i45, which we know is for other markets.... something like what Honda does to their Accord....having two models, one for American market and Asia, and the other for JDM and european.... well, actually in Japan they have the Accord, and Inspire.... USA they have the Accord and Acura TSX, we have Kah Motor Accord and PI Euro Accord....
Silver_blade Turbocharged May 9, 2010 Share May 9, 2010 Taken from one-shift: The i45 certainly looks distinctive but the myriad of lines and surfaces somehow makes its overall styling look messy and cluttered. The wraparound head and tail lamps have an over exaggerated feel to them as well. The overall roofline has a hint of the Volkswagen Passat CC and Mercedes CLS to give the i45 an even more curvaceous look as well as good aerodynamic efficiency (drag coefficient of 0.29). The same as I felt, too much lines. I agree. That is a new design lang. for all new Hyundai. But is a good change from the boring old design. They need a major change from the old, to signal a new chapter. I also agree with some that the interior is not 'well built' & handling + ride is so so, but at that price range, cannot complaint. Most cars around that price are also so-so. I feel the i45 is relatively value for money tho I find it a little pricier that I tot it will be. Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear May 9, 2010 Share May 9, 2010 surely the interior of the i45 has some hard plastics at places, however, the overall ambience, especially the 2-tone interior sure is contemporary and hip, but definitely not a luxurious interior to be in.... if luxury is all you want, the Camry is still the way to go.... if hip and contemporary is what you want, the i45 is all the car you'll ever need.... and don't bother about performance figures....you cannot pass 100kph in singapore anymore...and in years to come with more cars on the road, 80kph would be a dream....even on weekends.... Blackseal 1st Gear May 9, 2010 Share May 9, 2010 If you compare the rear space between Latio and sonata....it is no better...anyway is my view...you can disagree Latio rear Sonata rear Bro...cannot compare...coz Latio is cab forward design.....The front and back seats also more upright like seating in an MPV...hence = more space. The Sonata does not subscribe to this design = hence less space to the eye.. ↡ Advertisement
