Coltplussport Turbocharged February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 Hi all, Anyone have poon choy before? 1)Is it nice? 2)is it enough for 10 pax if they state its for 10 pax? I know need to go with rice, but does everyone get to share all the delicacy inside? Having it for the very first time this CNY, but since I suggested it, afraid not nice, or not enough to eat. Huat ah!!! ↡ Advertisement

Fcw75 Hypersonic February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 (edited) It's call Peng Cai. I ate before at the chinese restaurant East Ocean at Shaw Centre second floor. It's a lot of stuff in the huge claypot, the goodies are on top and the normal stuff are below. It's enuff for 10 people but frankly it's overpriced for me. I rather stick to those normal reunion dinner. But of course if you haven't tried before, no harm trying once. Boils down to personal preferences so you might like it. Huat ah! Berncsp76 6th Gear February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 (edited) Personally eaten this before..very nice! lots of delicacies stacked into the big claypot...at least 10 items with the thick gravy. Btw bro you be buying those take away poon choi?slightly cheaper then eat in, taste not bad also. I bought mine from Crystal Jade 2 years back. Paid about $238 for 10 pax too. The quantity should suffice for 10 pax if your family have small stomach, but do add in some more dishes to complement the delicacy, such as yu sheng, steam fish, roast items etc. Since you are at home will be easier. Some items in the pot such as abalone probably need to take out and slice it into several pieces to share around, but some poon choi has those smaller abalone which are enuf for each pax. Do check around. IMO do remember to cook up some chicken or pork bone stocks to add in to the poon choi as when you collect the claypot, it would usually be chilled to a certain temperature and you need to reheat it over a stove. After reheating the gravy would probably not be enough. Adding some stocks to it will elevate the flavour. Usually the counter staff will give you instructions but sometimes they are too busy will forget to do so. If its too troublesome, you may wan to buy those ready-made stocks (swanson). But the taste wun be so nice. Nice to chomp down with rice with the rich gravy too!! This year back to the usual steamboat. Bought the induction cooker and the Yin Yang pot so I can eat my spicy szechuan steamboat!!! Yummy!!! cant wait!! Nemo6089 1st Gear February 3, 2010 Share February 3, 2010 Tried it before, I personally find the taste weird because all the different food mixed in a pot like some funny taste. I would prefer eating different dishes one by one.

Huat ah!!! Has been a loyal Peng Cai/Poon choy supporter of Tung Lok. Had them for past 5 years, and this year is no exception. Usually when they state for 10 pax, should have enough share for 10, at least for the abalone (1 pc for each).

Dankoo 4th Gear February 3, 2010 Share February 3, 2010 Also have been ordering Peng Cai for the last few year liao. Actually, it is more on the significant of it as in " a bucket of veg/dish". It symbolises "FULL". As you know, in Chinese culture, it is impt that the family are together and have enough to eat... This year we are trying out Ban Hin for the first time. They are famous for their "Buddha jump over the wall". You normally need to have a couple of other dishes to supplement too. Have a good reunion! Alechi 2nd Gear February 3, 2010 Share February 3, 2010 Eat until very very full ... not too bad .. but make sure you don't order too much additional dish, cos the Pan2 Cai4 is very big portion On 2/2/2010 at 4:35 PM, Coltplussport said: Hi all, Anyone have poon choy before? 1)Is it nice? 2)is it enough for 10 pax if they state its for 10 pax?
