Sorry, couldn't start new topic as i'm new here. Got to choose this thread as it is most related to OPC.

It is regarding the new scheme of OPC having rebate of $1100 every 6 mth. I'm planning to convert my normal car to OPC but what happen here is if i were to sell my car away in a year time, will the rebate goes to the new owner or LTA would be able to pay me in lump sum?

I've called LTA and they told me i will be getting the full rebate but when i question them on this, they couldn't provide me with a concrete answer.

Any advice out there?

Sorry to hijack/ bring up this old thread.

i checked up with LTA on converting my normal car to OPC.

Info i gotten were as below, please correct me if im wrong.

1) we'll be entitled for the 1100/6mths till your car age is 10 years. so, my car age is 2 years now, date of Reg is 2008 May. i will be entitle the rebate till 2018 is i drive till then

2) yearly tax rebate and etc which is much straightforward.

My problem is this,i enquire about upfront OPC purchase is entitle a 17k rebate, the 1100/6mths are to compensate on that. But when i ask if i dereg the car after 1 year of driving in OPC mode, will i be getting the remaining rebate back? the answer is NO..

SO, do you guys think it is a big disadvantage to convert normal to OPC, since we are like not getting 17k upfront rebate back even when we dereg the car. Im assuming that even when we sell this car to used car dealer, they most prob will only offer the pricing of OPC rate and not a normal car rate which is much lesser.

by the way, lets not say 17k since i already drove for 2 years in normal car mode, take (17k/10)*8 = amt of rebate entitled.

Hi can you share with me which shop you went to for your licence plate conversion. Im looking to do it this saturday and now im looking for workshops that can do this.

before you go down to lta to do the paper work, shop for your number plate and order a set first. when i did mine in Feb, price ranged from $30 to $80 per set of 2 pieces. you can check out workshop areas like Sin Ming and Ubi.. they will show you what you get for different prices. Waiting time can range for 1 working day to a few days depending on how busy is the shop (that's why if you have settled the Lta paper work, you will be under time pressure 'cos must change the plate within 3 days).

After you confirm the licence plate, can proceed to settle the lta paper work. But note that legally, you need to buy e-day licence to drive during non-OPC timing once you convert.

The troublesome part is fixing the licence plate bracket (welded to your car). Some number plate shop can fix the bracket. Others don't but they will pass it to a nearby workshop to do for you. Some other ask you to go to a workshop on your own. Workmanship cost is about $80, and can take about 2 hours.

after that you need to go down to inspection centre to fix the seal. remember to bring down lta's conversion letter. else they won't entertain you.

But your parf will be so much higher than if you register your car as an OPC initiatly. So dealer will still give you higher rate for this kind of car. But you can convert it back to normal plate when selling your ride, it's just a $100 plus some changing of plate.

But for OPC owner with 17k rebate, from what I experience, dealer will quote you very low body value on top of your very low parf because they always have this mentality that OPC harder to sell, and you as seller don't have money to convert into a normal plate. If anyone want to sell their red plated car, please convert it if you got the money before you sell it.

Thanks for the tip. I did my normal car to revised OPC conversion through Henderson Motors this morning. Went to Mr. Tan first to show him my car and number plate, then went to LTA to do paperwork. Went back to Mr. Tan for the bracket fixing, number plate mounting. He subsequently drove my car to VICOM for inspection.

All pau ka liao $120 bucks including the VICOM inspection fees. Duration taken 845am-1045am. Very reasonable and quick!
