Piyopico Supercharged February 1, 2010 Share February 1, 2010 Was looking at the other thread on exercising without a gym. Apparently the TS mentioned that the high fat zero carbo diet managed to cure diabetes. I believe diabetes is incurable. Am I missing something? My mom is on medication and it is to be taken for the rest of her life. Tried chinese medication before but it did not yield the results that was promised. ie "cure" the disease. Anyone experienced "curing" this disease? I am just shocked a change of diet can have this effect.............. ↡ Advertisement

Piyopico Supercharged February 1, 2010 Author Share February 1, 2010 Ok from what I have gathered based on common medical beliefs and recommendations, the diet for Diabetes (Type 2) is a low fat and high Carbo diet. Type 1 is incurable due to body not producing insulin so dietary measures will not offer any solution. It seems many have had success in "curing" Type 2 Diabetes by adopting the high fat and low/zero carbo diet. Am thinking of persuading my mom to try the high fat zero carbo diet..................... after all her medication does not offer a cure. Question is " Are there also people who does not respond to this". Anyone with experiences to share?

She would be resistant though....people generally are brought up thinking Fat is Bad....she might think u r out to kill her sooner LOL Just try lor, better than nothing, since u have no alternatives. Skunk Clutched February 1, 2010 Share February 1, 2010 Question is " Are there also people who does not respond to this". Anyone with experiences to share? so far, from what i know, the only people who did not respond to the diet, are those who are not disciplined enough, or they "cheat". U have to TOTALLY cut out carbo, at least initially, for the diet to work. It's a metabolic trick to stop the body producing insulin and start burning up the fat. The moment u cross a certain threshold in carbo consumption, the metabolic "switch" will not take place....and u will end up fatter than before :(
Piyopico Supercharged February 1, 2010 Author Share February 1, 2010 My mom does not have a obesity issue. I just wanna try to get her off permanent medication. I hope this diet works. You are right. She will probably think I am trying to kill her by suggesting high fat zero carbo...............

They learnt differently in med school, unfortunately, and will probably be skeptical especially regarding such alternative forms of treatment. Piyopico Supercharged February 1, 2010 Author Share February 1, 2010 Doctors? A GP? Or nutritionist? They learnt differently in med school, unfortunately, and will probably be skeptical especially regarding such alternative forms of treatment. This was exactly what I had in mind. Would there be any doctor that will recommend the high fats zero carbo diet? Anyway, this is what I got from the website: The cure is to eliminate partially hydrogenated oils and trans-fats [i.e. trans-fatty acids, such as is in margarine] from the diet. Replace these with natural oils such as flaxseed, olive oil, real butter, lard, any organic animal or plant fats, coconut oil, etc. Try to make omega 3/omega 6 ratio > 1 [i.e. consume more omega 3 than omega 6 - I would also add walnuts to his list of things with omega 3]. I think I better check with her if she is Type 1 or Type 2. In fact she is quite slim and has been losing weight as she ages. So I guess Type 1 diabetes cant be helped by this diet............... Forte Neutral Newbie February 1, 2010 Share February 1, 2010 Last year I came across this booklet about potato juice, diabetes is one of the illness mentioned in this booklet (the rest are liver, stomach, cancer). This booklet is suppose to distribute around, and I'd it scan into PDF format (its all in Chinese Character). If anyone would like to get a softcopy, you know what to do (PM with your email). Cases were mentioned in there as well. I am not the writer, nor I have any illnesses in order to obtain this booklet. I'd shared the softcopy with couple of friends (their immediate families needed it). Don't me, I see it as - If I can help out something, I will try.
