most ppl go agent do servicing, they throw their car there, go away , come back collect car, pay money and leave .

what is done to their car ' either they dun know, or they dun bother to know'

i dun think they even now what is written on the paper.

last time i do that too, and i am paying lots of EXTRA sgd .

now i go workshop, small 1 yes. but i get to talk to the guy who do my car.

they tell me change brake, i ask them, why , how u judge my brake pad is worn off. they change my filter, i see with my own eyes, they take out the old 'DIRTY' filter and change to a new 1.

they introduce me to engine flush, i see personally, they use the special liquid in my engine . the guy that do my car, must be able to communicate with me, if not i wont go to thatws. no matter the rate .

this is how i chose my ws, lol. just trying to share my experience.

we can rest assured that AD will not "take" good parts from the car while we leave it with them. i cannot say the same for other WS.

its better for owners to keep an eye on their cars if they bring it to small Ws. there will always be some dishonest chaps in this industry. it pays to be careful.

Riverview. Cheap and good!!! [laugh]

don t anyhow say

riverview is not cheap and contrary to popular perception they are not that great as well

for simple bread and butter jap cars, not much diff as long as its a reliable mechanic

riverview is more expensive than 90% of the workshops out there.

i have sent my car for servicing at the founder's ws, however i seem to find anything wrong with it. i know that there are serveral branches spread across the island, can you tell which one of their branches is no good?

i'm patronising their central branch now.

hmmm... then why you straight away avoid our founder's workshop? if you so believe one man's meat is another man's poison?

all i can say is... its amazing how easy it is to tarnish a workshop's reputation, or as a matter of fact, anything's reputation... there are workshops that has bad reviews but i am very comfortable going there... and vice versa... i guess ultimately it simply boils dwn to your amount of knowledge you have on cars... as this will contribute how u determine your impression of the workshop...

we also probably need to factor in the different kinds of 'customers'.... i am not saying all carrots are treated better... just have to understand that there are tons of sickening customers as well...

well all said, if WS really is dishonest, there is every reason to bad mouth them...

but the fact is some smaller workshops do not ask you to change certain parts in your car EVEN if its abt to wear out, simple because they either do not have the spare part, profit margin too low, or fatter profit from next car waiting... (eg. if i'm a mech, i rather sell a HKS muffler then to sell a clutch set or change a gear ratio...)

Big WS or chains usually have a substaintial stock list of parts... and Mechs either get commission from upgrading a sale... (or fattening the bill) so they suggest the about to be worn parts more often then smaller workshops....

everyone should go to the WS they are comfortable with. big WS that ask people to change this or that also have their own customers. bad small WS also have their own customers. the industry is large enough for the good,medium and bad WS to survive.

As the topic mentions, I suspect the workshop I send my car for servicing for the last 1 year purposely damage other part of the car so I had to go back for repairs.

Ok... the thing is after my car warrantly expired last year I decided to do my car servicing at this workshop. usually I send my car back to the agent. I mean it's not one of those small workshops but a big workshop with multiple outlets all over singapore .... so it must be reputable..right???

1st time I send my car to them was to change brake pads ... next day my car vacuum hose to petrol tank sprung a leak ... at that time I just drove to my car authorised agent cos when the problem occurs I happen to be nearby my authorised agent workshop ...

2nd time I send for normal 20K servicing .... and again within 2 days my gear shift linkage came loose ...

but last Saturday send for 3rd servicing (10K) at same workshop and within 2 days one of the oil pipes is broken ...

For the first 2 times I thought it was just coincidence ... but now I'm beginning to think otherwise. Furthermore during the 3rd servicing I met a guy who also send his car for servicing same day ... and today again I saw him and he said his car also got other problems now and had to be resend for repairs ...

Is there any trustworthy workshop I can send my car to or do I have to revert back to my agent workshop ... [bigcry]

==============

If CDGE is previously known as C@S, then I tell u they r crap.

I used the one at Senoko & their quality of work was very poor.

I stopped using them after a couple of times cos they caused more problems than they solved.

I think u sud look for another WS.

I prefer those small one man operation places where the boss does the work & u can build up a relationship with him over time.

Bigger WS I find the quality of the work lacking as many employ cheap foreign labour trainees to do the work. We r actually letting them use our cars to train their mechs.

U must also look out for dishonest mechs/WS cos many r like that. That is the only way they know how to survive here. [knife]

30mins-60mins??? ... my last 10K servicing at this workshop took over 5 hours .... I was there after 12 noon and waited till 6pm to get back my car .... should have sent back to agent ws at most they took 2 hours only

that's why I'm quite dissapointed for a ws with service outlets stretching from changi, amk, bukit batok to jurong to name a few ....

maybe it's just my luck ... 3 times send for servicing and come back 3 times with other problems or faults within a few days of the servicing ... maybe it's b'cos my car is 5 years old already that's why so many problems [shakehead] ... Maybe next time I should send back to agent ws for servicing and see if it comes back with other problems also after servicing ...

=====================

It took me quite a few years to find a good WS/mech & I hold on tight to him now.

Not easy to find in SG.

hahaha, thanks for the warning.

they share name as our founder

========

Yah lor. S Raffles.

I tried them a couple of times but stopped using them as I found their quality of work lacking.

I found most if not all those big WS & agent even does a poor job. Maybe they have too many trainees using our cars to learn. [mad]

I only use agent workshop for routine servicing. Expensive yes.....but gives me a peace of mind. The car is a safety item, your life and family lives are in it. Don't save on servicing and tyres.

============

Thats what many pple think that agent ws is best for our cars but I think it is not so.

I tried b4. Paid much more than outside ws & the work was pure crap. Had to send my car to my regular ws to re-do most of the stuff.

Good example was my car was 1.5 lit & when they changed my timing belt, they tune my timing to 1.3 lit engine although there was a BIG sticker on the top of the engine cover saying mine was 1.5lit.

Had my fren re-do it with his timing light. Really a stupid mistake most prob done by a very inexperienced trainee mech.

I never send to agent anymore. Even my present Optra, I threw away the balance of the warranty when I bought the car. I have totally lost faith in agents & big ws.

my friend works in agent. Usually all the new techs will work on the car. once they gain enough experience they are promoted or leave to join outside workshops. So actually, send to agent means newbies with proper manuals will work on your car. but of course im not implying their service will be worse than an experienced mech without the proper service manuals.

==================

I fully agree. [nod]

with this on going thread, who dares to visit our founder to service their car?

i am still thinking of using them to flush my ATF/engine oil. Now can forget about it

================

FYI I used them several years back to flush my ATF as they has a promotion then.

They used some Conoco ATF which I never really checked then if it was suitable.

A few months later my autobox failed & had to go for an overhaul which cost me abt $2K. [bigcry]

They also did my alignment b4. End up my steering wheel crooked to 1 side. Had to go back & ask them to adjust the wheel straight again. WTF they sud have checked it b4 returning the car to me. [furious]

At the same time I changed 4 tires with them. Later I checked & found they pump my tires abt 280kpa whan the recommended was only abt 200kpa. [sweatdrop]

After that I never go back to them, ever. [shakehead]
