Kia Sorento 2010

I heard from one bro to buy an unavailable model in the market,

he approached a reputed PI, who has business with the particular maker, let them help to import the requested model, and deal with the paper work and inspection with LTA, you just pay the car price + import tax + COE + miscellaneous expense etc, it's not expensive than buy from AD, the only problem is service and warranty, service can go to MY if you don't care.

Now that is an option. Considering it was sold by c&C but not anymore.

Thanks bro.

Hi All,

Congrats. mine a 2k sorento is jus 2 months old as well. Sad to see there is no FB group. i jus create one.

So far all my efforts to locate a KIA specialist But from what I have learnt, almost all mechanics good in Jap cars can work on Korean and C&C do sell spares. So i think it should be usefull. Meantime, C&C do sell a package for 700$ that allows 3 service and a complimentary towing incase of break down. My next serving is in another 5k , i plan to skip and do it on the 10k.Lets see :). For the moment, I have changed the stock music player (hyundai debis or something) to a korean import that includes a touch screen and gps from ebay. and its very very usefull. I've patched few chrome trims as well - all thanks to ebay. Found a good sound system specialist in Toh guan (Dareen auto) , and these guys seems to know what they do. Although i believe its the first Sorento they touched in their life time. Cheers and enjoy your ride.

Bros...

My current Toyota Wish's COE is expiring in about 6 months time. I fancy SUV (talking about 7 seater ones here and 2nd hand) and very much like the XC90. But too pricey... decided to consider MPV again, until my finances allows me to gor for XC90... Anyway, came upon Sorento last week at the CC show room and i'm very much impressed by it. Now seriously considering a 2nd hand Sorento... need some advice from the long time owners of this model...

Is it a good idea to buy, say a 5 year old car and any ancicipated maintanance issues??? ANd how's the FC as the car gets older?

Any guidance would very much be appreciated. THanks...

hello Ragu,

sorento build quality is reliable as i believe they tried their best to please the US consumers. I dont have much of history with sorento other than the last 7 months of trouble free ownership. It did fail on ABS and Aircon ( i guess its lasted 5 yrs) but lucky to have them replaced while under the warranty.

So far with a few trips to Ipoh and 10k km's , i like this monster SUV. I can safely say this build quality is comparable to a mercedes and always surprices why there is need for the premium for Merc's. you will get such an impression.

car is huge, so parking is always planned, c&C has no probs with spares.

i would suggest you can go for diesel version if you r not travelling to malaysia that often. It does consumes petrol a lot :). Considering the size of 7 seater(very comfortable) its still ok.

I've changed the head unit to GPS+ touch screen DVD so i guess if you can do that too, u will get all the perks of a modern car with 1/2 the price.

Cheers and good luck

Hi Vijay,

thanks for your response / reply... yes, i do intend on driving to KL ocaasionally... may be 3-4 times a year... So, diesel in not recommended?

In any case, if i'm not wrong, the Diesel models came in only recently to singapore... or may be i'm wrong... I'm thinking of a 2010 / 2011 register fella... are there any diesel models available?

Btw, what's your typical FC. Just would like to know and do some homework... I'm getting about 11.5 with my Wish and i know i can't compare both these at the same level..

The white looks very good...

Btw... what speed can you hit while on the NS Highway? I mean comfy speed...?

Others, please do pitch in.. Thanks...

The Euro5 Diesel is not available in Malaysia. As Diesel is cheap I think it can last for JB shopping trip – full tank.

Yes you are right –except taxi’s/yes 2010/2011 Diesels are available…

450km/full tank…never really look at it close J , someone mention it as 11km..same for Hyundai Tucson.

J thanks. I bought it as I like the white +orange seats.
Btw... what speed can you hit while on the NS Highway? I mean comfy speed...?

Very stable car..i’ve pushed it to max 140-150 ..it never showed any symptoms of strain. On short curises to JB I find it really comfortable with its commanding view , control and the speed it can accelerate.

As I mentioned earlier the quality is good like that of a benz (I had 3 merc before and I don't see what is different in this other than the manual wipers/no rain sensors).
Others, please do pitch in.. Thanks...

Yup I am the blue Sorento owner of a 2010 Nov batch and I am still enjoying the ride since last July. Inside cabin is real quiet and comfy with suspension and i havent had any regrets since....normal city FC ard 7km+ which is normal for a 7-seater monster SUV...cant complain much...did a lot of exterior work though...

Thanks for the detailed replies Vijay & Kurrypokteh...

The fuel consumption of 7km/L is pretty scary though... compared to 11.5km/L on average i'm getting on my wish...

nevertheless, kurrypokteh's figures refers to city driving... hoping combi of city / highways of 10 wouldn't be too bad...

Otherwise, all other comments on this SUV is definitely encouraging... I've asked my car dealer to look out for one... if any of you know of any owners planning to let it go, do let me know.... I'm looking for a unit thats about 5 years old or so...

Many thanks again, folks... reallu appreciate your input and i welcome more if there are any... Also keen to know any problems that i need to be aware of...

>> aiyah bro tell ur wife she can "rub elbows" with you on the centre panel arm rest lah.. both of u can rest ur elbows on it when driving and massage each other's elbows hahaha.. You are spot on on sorento being a top choice for its pricing point. Maybe now its pricey cos of COE, but previously when it was $89,999 or thereabouts, damn good value for money considering what features are thrown in.

soon bro, soon.. your sorento already being fitted with the leather seats, ritecool etc at the workshop this week :)

Hi, DriveDarren / BodyGlove... Are you guys still driving the monsters? How would you guys rate it after 5 years? Really would like to have some opinions from the 1st owners... THanks...

I am one of the 2nd hand owner and i occasionally do open and close the sunroof so that it can prevent the mechanism from corrosion or rusty. So far ok for me after driving it for close to 3 years. Definitely a reliable monster car. Interior cabin super quiet although pick up cannot be compared to other brands. Go for it bro and you wont regret. I know I didnt regret.
