Oregon 1st Gear December 10, 2010 Share December 10, 2010 Everytime you step on the clutch you engage the throwout bearing which in turn engages the clutch. The throwout bearing is just a bearing and not meant to be engaged all the time - ie riding on the clutch pedal. My guess is that you may have overheated the bearing and caused it to be draggy - as such you have problems disengaging the clutch completely for 1st and 2nd gear. This bearing can wear out prematurely from improper driving technique like riding the clutch pedal. If the problem persists and get worse and you have to change the bearing which means a clutch overhaul for a cheap part. ↡ Advertisement
Orixy 2nd Gear December 11, 2010 Share December 11, 2010 What car are you driving now? MT90 should last you more than 20k km at least. I suspect the oil level is either low(leaking) or some sort of a mechanical problem. As for lightweight shockproof, we only recommend it to problem gearbox as sort of band-aid, gear oil cannot solve a mechanical problem but mask the sound and hopefully prolong the gearbox before overhaul. So far hav not detected any leaking problem. My ride is the Mit Colt verR with the stock Getrag 5MT gearbox and ZF-Sachs clutch. To be fair, this gearbox and clutch setup is not the most easy to operate from the start and the gearbox always have a cluttering sound when not engaged. Changing to Redline MT90 did improve things like making shifts smoother and reducing noise but only until 20k km where things start getting notchy again. Seriously I'm not sure lightweight shockproof can solve your notchy shifting problem but you can try it if really cannot tahan your current shifting. Some of them are a direct shaft. I want to know, when your car is still... is it easy to engage to 1st gear? If moving, from 2nd gear dropping to 1st is hard??? If dropping to 1st gear on the move... there might be a "gate" so as to prevent it from over reving or crunching the gears. Secont and 3 Rd is hard. I just ganged the oil. Please tell me the reason.
