Hi,

1 paint shop recommend putting 2 layers of laquer over, which will gives better protection to scratches and also gives off deep shine.

Has anyone tried this? Is it better to spend $$$ on pps or on the 2x laquer?

Did he mentioned apply laquer or spray laquer cos i never came across this..I do agreed that a good laquer gave a good uv resistance..paint gloss looks great but never heard about putting 2 layers of laquer again unless you going for a respray job..

Yap, it is spraying additional laquer coat.

But does it gives more protection as opposed to using paint protection system?

Price for 2 layers is $500

@@ $500 for 2 layers of laquer coat is cheap! Its a steal, my friend did his accord euro R blue, additional spray over of clear coat for $1.2k. He told me his clear coat is of better quality that could withstand mini stone impact from high speed. Some kinda ceremic clear coat he claimed.

It depends on what protection you are referring to. Adding extra layer of clear coat does help in term of UV protection but not necessary against scratches or etching. As bro EK0405 has mentioned, if you are using those scratch resistant ceremic clear coat than there is a good chance you get less scratches or etching in the long run. But the price for such clear coat is never cheap.

But if the clear coat you are using is soft, than you will get more scratches or etching as compared to the normal clear coat in the long run because regardless the number of coats you put on the car, the clear coat is still soft.

If you choose to respray your car, I would suggest you go for a better quality clear coat. IMO the best way to protect your car is still a regular proper maintenance method.

Care to ask your friend which workshop did he/ she went to get this ceramic clear coat?

Driving on road leaves scars on my front bumper and the fenders, I am thinking of doing the coating.
