Ronkovic 5th Gear January 22, 2010 Share January 22, 2010 I guess the fundamental reason for getting an MPV would be the need for space. This could be for a variety of reasons e.g. more kids, big family or disabled family member, multi-purpose use like transporting good for work/trade. Following the fundamental reason then probably comes the part of mutual agreement/initiative/OC prompting. Personally for me, its because of family expansion. But the transition, adaptation and searching process took a few trial and errors I would say I was rather reluctant to get an MPV as I was enjoying a pretty decent classic sedan and had done it up quite alot. I love driving and the constant feel of handling and control. In a haste, I regretably sold it, and after that OC and I figured that perhaps having 2 cars would be better than a single MPV. So I bought another very nice classic sedan, which was really mint and in fab shape and was searching for a hatch for OC. But then, our minds then thought that to avoid logistical headache, it'd be better if we just got a single MPV instead. So in 2007, we searched for a good deal and found a gem in a 2nd hand 2004 Mitsubishi Grandis, which was a rich family's 3rd car, very low mileage and underutilised, and even still had the plastic on for the rear seats. I had considered the Odyssey at that time, but the cost differential was almost $15K to $18K which didn't make it worth it. The Grandis fulfilled the needs altho' personally, I didn't find it fun to drive - too comfort and sedate for my liking. About 8 months later, I realised that Odyssey prices had dipped somewhat, so explored the idea of getting one. Found a pretty good one and even managed to contact the previous owner and got the info on what he'd done with the car. So traded in the Grandis at a good price, and went on to get the Odyssey. Been driving it since April 2008 and enjoying it since I felt at least for an MPV, this is the closest driving feel I could get to my previous sedan. Roh96 6th Gear January 22, 2010 Share January 22, 2010 I change from hatchback to MPV when we have our 2nd kid. The need for space is the main reason for my case. When i don't need to use the 3rd row seat, i will fold it down for more storage space like a wagon. Really multi purpose car.

Silver_blade Turbocharged January 22, 2010 Share January 22, 2010 I was the one initiated it. We have 2 kids and with the child seat mount, i can only ferry 1 extra person should we have stuck to a 5-seater. So I suggested we get a 7 seater, to ferry extra people should we need it and put the 2 extra seats down to carry push cart or 2 large dogs.

Has always wanted a MPV since the Mit Chariot Spacewagon days, but could not afford one (even now for Grandis ). I like it "high" & spacious. By chance, changed fr a Lancer to Wish in 2004. Family size did not really justify a MPV, only 1 kid and no maid. In 2008 managed to convince CFO to accept the weird looking Voxy for even more space My family size did not increase that much to justify again - 2 kids and still no maid ... Now CFO loves the "high" sitting position, that she vow not to drive another sedan So I got myself into this Sh*t - driving the Altis instead, and being hi-beam & not giving way by Vios etc
