Moredhel 2nd Gear June 13, 2011 Share June 13, 2011 My car remote had some problems and was quoted a chop neck price to replace. Do I decided to go for aftermarket ones. New 2-way remotes and I can now engine start, boot release, etc....and a host of other functions. At a fraction of the cost of replacing the damn original 1-way remotes. ADs, balls to you. Senocs Neutral Newbie February 3, 2012 Share February 3, 2012 Just a quick check-in with your guys. I went to one of the shops listed on this thread today. The guy quoted me $80 to change my key to a flip key type. He said no need to cut new key, he can transfer the old key over. IS This possible ? Also, he said I needed to bring all my car keys (total I have 2 keys) and re-program all the keys at the same time. Does this make any sense ?

Also, he said I needed to bring all my car keys (total I have 2 keys) and re-program all the keys at the same time. Does this make any sense ? $80 is cheap. I lost my FD2's key and went back to KAH Motor to cut a new one. The cutting and program of new Immobilizer Key cost me a total of $283.00. The re-programe is necessary as this is ensure that if someone found my lost key, he will not be able to open the door and start the engine.

SkywalkerTY Neutral Newbie December 22, 2016 Share December 22, 2016 Hi there, sorry to jump in but after searching for the last hour or so, I am right back where I started - which is still blur and helpless. Quick question is : Do you know how to reprogram a Silicon brand car remote control? This is a very common after market alarm system given "free" by many car sales folks when you buy a car. My car is now about 3 years old. When I put in the key and the car is switched to ON position (engine off), the remote works perfectly fine. Once the key is out, is another story. I can lock easily but cannot unlock. Exactly the same problem happens using either remote (one primary and one spare) - which means cannot be coincidence or both damaged remotes. I once saw a mechanic program a new remote to a car and it involved a number of quick steps like switch on (not engine on), push buttons, switch off, switch on - etc. I've tried many combinations of actions (pressing 2 or more buttons, etc) based on what I can remember but nothing seems to work. Have resorted to using car key for now. FYI - both remotes now have new batteries (that was first factor to eliminate - but someone told me that I might have messed up the frequency of the remote by changing the battery myself...). It may be the alarm system but I doubt it as it seems to respond very well (when the car switch is ON, that is...). Appreciate your help in anyway possible. Thanks a million!!!! I just went to Liansiong wanting to buy a new Silicon brand remote for $30 (use to cost only $25 about 6 years ago). In the end , I change my in-car transponder system (it is partly malfunctioning) as a new one come with 2 new silicon remotes and only cost $90, plus they help me reprogram my existing remote as spare. I think the silicon remote is good value for money, rather the other costly options in this thread. You may consider going to Liansiong (Tel: 6296 4550) to reprogram/buy a new remote, not sure how much they charge for reprogramming though.
Adrianli Hypersonic December 22, 2016 Share December 22, 2016 My car remote has been consuming battery every month. Every month need to change battery. It has been 4 months and changed battery 4 times. First time, bought a china battery from electrical shop. 2nd time, I was thinking china brand maybe no good, so I bought energizer brand. But also habis in a month. So subsequent two times bought china brand. Which brand of button battery is the best and longest lasting? My previous car no such problem, china brand can last abt one year plus. Dont know why this car's remote consumes so much power.

Buttons get stuck or your butt press against the buttons in the pocket you are not aware. Just spray some electronic quick dry contact cleaner on the circuit board and buttons. Give it a few minutes to dry before assembling it back. Button battery some keep in storage for too long. I also kenna sometimes. Use battery tester and see the damn thing is going flat even before I use it.

Then I realised that cuz I put it in my jeans front pocket, I keep pressing on the button whenever I sit down and rest my hands on my lap. After I stop putting my remote there, the battery drain problem is gone.

Other times, its in my office drawer or at home side table. If not driving, I dont carry my remote with me. Also I prefer loose cloths, not into skin tight cloths.

skyracer Neutral Newbie January 18, 2017 Share January 18, 2017 Usually a remote key battery can last up to or above 1 year plus (My old lancer last up to 3 years. If your battery last only 1 month, then I think the following could be the reason. 1. You are getting an expired / expiring battery. I saw the price of this battery stated $1.50 and made in Japan? 2. Car remote function by frequency. Try standing 5 cars away from yours. If your remote activate your car, then the frequency is more or less correct . Else it is not optimized. (Not optimized frequency cause more battery consumption when using. As long as within freq range, you can still activate but shorter distant) 3. As member has indicated, you have accidentally press on the button while it is in your tight pocket. 4. Your remote keep emitting signal due to faulty component. (You need device to check)
Chrome Neutral Newbie February 25, 2017 Share February 25, 2017 I've made a key fob with all the programming at turf city first floor where all the used car dealers are. Not cheap but works well. They need to copy your ID in case you are a daylight car thief.
