While we are wasting away the blardy billions of dollars to build the eco city of Tianjin, why not use the monies to get all the top brains here to think abt how to use & capture this free energy in a efficient and effective way? Once we learnt the way, we can export our know-how and technologies to other countries. Please don't. The moment the authorities know how to use the sun energy in an efficient way, we will be charged. I don't want to go sun tan also have to pay because I use the sun. Ladykillerz 4th Gear January 13, 2010 Share January 13, 2010 you should understand the logic when you are living in SG. if you are willing to pay so much for a small bird cage, then you should apprehend the electricity logic. if you are willing to pay a car for about $100k when the OMV is only about $30k, then you should apprehend the electricity logic. same goes to liquor, cigarettes, petrol and everything above SG land. =p

Vextan 1st Gear January 14, 2010 Share January 14, 2010 given the impending escalating price of crude oil and hence electricity, are you all in favour of nuclear powered generators which produces electricity at a fraction of the cost ?

Nuclear-powered? Given the size of Singapore, one mistake - we do not have anywhere to "let's move on".
Zyrofillica 1st Gear January 14, 2010 Share January 14, 2010 we should use geothermal power. put the boilers on top of the erp gantries and congested roads, drivers get very hot in jams and at erp gantries especially when their unit goes "beep". a lot of wasted thermal energy is being emitted from these sources and should be captured and be integrated into our power grid. Classic example of effective use of human resources for resource scarce singapore.
David Clutched January 14, 2010 Share January 14, 2010 I saw it on the television, at a disco where people dancing and it helps to generate some electricity. Then there is this Taiwan student project where they mod the helmet that it captures the wind and generate some current to power the hp charger. Zyrofillica 1st Gear January 14, 2010 Share January 14, 2010 i read about that somewhere too, and now also got local poly students trying to harness the wind from cars on our eways. brilliant. i should start researching on heat generated from road rage/frustration. Karoon Turbocharged January 14, 2010 Share January 14, 2010 well after 3 foreign companies bought our power stations for about S$4bil each, how else do you think they will recover their cost? by aiming for lower tariffs? also, our power prices are benchmarked not just to to fuel oil price but also US exchange rate. but despite USD going at record low, electricity price still went up up and away. kelong x 1000

They do give some sort of rebates every now and then.... but unless you are so poor until you are nearly bleeding to death, the subsidies would be so insignificant it's almost meaningless. My gripe is that the govt always ignore the plight of those who are not poor enough, and not quite rich either.

Zyrofillica 1st Gear January 14, 2010 Share January 14, 2010 not too bad about being very poor? dear sir, pls justify that statement. i dun understand how govt can sell away all our local coys for monetary profit? I mean, basics like petrol (SPC), electricity being owned by foreigners, won't that put our standard of living in the hands of the foreigners and out of control of our govt? They prefer immediate cash gains over future living conditions for singaporeans? ↡ Advertisement
